Mark Jones Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 I seem to remember reading in an old 70's Blues and Soul (which I obviously borrowed being so young lol) I think about a massive warehoue fire in the 60's which virtually wiped out all off the 60's soul output from the Washington area. Apparently master tapes and vinyl were burnt to a cinder for ever, maybe this explains the little input over the years from the Washington DC area? Anyone got any info?

Are you meaning the (Shrine Records) warehouse fire in the 1968 Martin Luther King riots where all Shrine's stock of unsold records was destroyed as a result? Guest Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 (edited) That would be Waxie Maxies record store, where Eddie & Raynoma stored their stock when they left DC that was burnt down..... Edited September 22, 2007 by recordwanted
vaultofsouler Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 That would be Waxie Maxies record store, where Eddie & Raynoma stored their stock when they left DC that was burnt down..... That's the name of the place.... I'd gone "blank upstairs" trying to recall it's name....

Soul Shrews Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Hi mischief yep the hotels address is I think 10 Thomas Cicle but as it takes up about a quarter of that circle I'm sure 3 Thomas Circle don't exist anymore. Love Washington great place lovely friendly polite people can't wait to get back there Cheers Paul PS It is very very cold in winter tho
mischief Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Love Washington great place lovely friendly polite people can't wait to get back there You won't think that next time your there in bed, thinking that under where you lay are melted boxes of every record ever released and maybe unreleased (who knows) on Shrine plus any other records from that period that was there aswell.. "sleep well"
Soul Shrews Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Actually I think the warehouse was a different address to the HQ, which was Thomas Circle But I dare say they had a few copies of the records at the HQ too Looking forward to some sleepless nights next time ! Cheers Paul
