Gary Wouldn't say it sounds better gazman but there is a very nice remix on there Also theres the really good Fantastic Johnny C "Waiting For The Rain" remix which is basically the instrumental and vocal tracks mixed so that its longer, like not messed about with, if you see what I mean An Arctic CD now theres a thought...................something for Kent maybe ? Wonder if theres many tracks "left in the can" ? Cheers Paul
45cellar Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 (edited) I've had a look around, but does anyone know of a CD with all the classic "Northern" Arctic recordings? Volcanoes, Mike & Ike, Kenny Gamble Etc? Paul Hi Paul They are spread across a few different C.D.'s One of the first that came to mind was this one. I do agree that an Arctic CD would be good but i think 45 cellar has answered the question for the most part. Gary

Paul R Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 Found this one, a Jamie/guyden release from '98 Quite cheap from the states. 1. You're Number One - The Volcanos 2. Boogaloo Down Broadway - The Fantastic Johnny C 3. Standing In The Darkness - The Ethics 4. Storm Warning - The Volcanos 5. Right On The Tip Of My Tongue - Brenda & The Tabulations 6. You May Not Love Me - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes 7. Girl I Love You - The Temptones 8. Baby - The Volcanos 9. The Touch Of You - Brenda & The Tabulations 10. The Jokes On You - Kenny Gamble 11. That's The Way Love Goes - The Ethics 12. Get Out (And Let Me Cry) - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes 13. Say These Words Of Love - The Temptones 14. Make Your Move - The Volcanos 15. Don't Stop Loving Me - Kenny Gamble 16. Help Wanted - The Volcanos Still need plenty though. As you say it's about individual tracks. Got to be one of my favourite labels, and almost the soundtrack to my early allnighter career in late 73/early 74. Particularly "the Laws Of Love" takes me back to that New shopping arcade in Station rd Plus us all buying plastic saxaphones to play along to Mike & Ike Great days. Paul

Paul Hi Paul That looks a great C.D. Mate I'll have to search a copy out. Often wondered why "the Laws Of Love" hasn't made it onto a C.D. yet. At least I don't think that it has. Arctic is one of my favourite labels too.
45cellar Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 (edited) I've just noticed it's another C.D. that says Volume 1 I wonder if any of these have ever made it to Volume 2 Certainly hope so. I'll keep searching, as already mentioned It would be interesting to know if there is any unissued stuff. Edited September 21, 2007 by 45cellar

Guest Polyvelts Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I know its all a matter a taste and that BUT I cant believe that Barbara Mason's 'You better stop it' (for me) one of the greatest ever soul tracks isnt included while 'The Jokes on you' (It certainly is !!!) makes it, surely one of the most goddawful records ever spun on the Northern circuit ! In my opinion of course .
Paul R Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 'The Jokes on you' surely one of the most goddawful records ever spun on the Northern circuit ! In my opinion of course . A bit harsh, with Gary Lewis, Tim Tam, etc around. But I know what you mean. As it says on the front of the CD Vol1 so they were obviously planning Vol 2. I should think if you are compiling a series, then the big mistake would be to put all the real goodies on Vol 1. By vol 3 it would be all really second or third rate. Paul

That's the beauty of Northern that blue eyed sounding records can get played or could get played with a great dance floor reaction and I wouldn't like to say that to his face.
