What sort of info do you want? Price? A review of his visit to the UK in the early 90s? Wasn't a copy on JM auction recently? Original is blue. He's from DC....it's a great record....anything else?

Found this on the net;

Al Mason's Good Lovin first appeared in 1980 on the Washington based "Al and the Kidd Records" on a 12 inch single.This was the "B" side to a ballad called "We still should be together" and was possibly only ever around as a promo 12 inch.

Good Lovin then appeared again some 5 years later in 1985 when it had a release on a 7 inch single via Fynal Vinyl Records and then for a third time during the late 80s on a label called Bunky.

The Fynal Vinyl 7" was seen last month on a dealers list at £750

The Bunky now going up in price too for a re re issue..£60

I saw one last week somewhere on here I think

I got my FV copy for £20 from Kev Thomas in Ireland about 10 years back

top man even sent me back £10 as it was only EX..

Must be the most expensive re-issue unless anyone knows better?

Wouldn't mind betting that if a FV copy & a 12" Al & Kid original went up for auction the FV copy would go for more even though the 12" is far rarer.

Al Mason - Good Lovin' (7" & 12")...................I NEVER KNEW THERE WAS SUCH A 7"

A lush soul dancer with a solid bottom end, guitarist/singer Al Mason's Good Lovin' first hit the streets in 1980 on the Washington-based Al & The Kidd Records, a joint venture between Washington producer/go-go impresario Maxx Kidd and Al (AJ) Jefferson. Released as both a 7" and a 12" single, it also later turned up on another DC label, Fynal Vinyl Records, in 1985 and finally at the end of the decade on the Bunky imprint.

the seven was a legal issue because the 12 never sold.. just like king tutt/curtis etc

i much prefer the allan harris 12 over the 7" anyday pressed louder got more instrumentation etc are 12;s better than 7"s ????

This was raised a little while ago, when soneone had the 7" in the "sales" section.

I've never seen a 12" on Al & the Kidd in the flesh, but seen a few on Fynal Vynil. Which do seem to come up on a periodic basis. Adam mentioned that he'd had 3 through his doors.

I think someone said the 12" is around £400 even though it is rarer, but the 7" in more prized. Well I suppose the 7" can fit on your thumb, whereas the 12" cant.

Aquired a Allan Harris 12" a while back after turning down 2 x 7" copies.

Was cheaper & like you say the sound quality is far better.

Recently saw a 7" AH listed for £450

Now that's out the way who's gonna send me a King Tutt 12" & an Al & Kid 12" for less than the price of the 7s

I prefer the 7" of Allan Harris. It has got lower volume, but not much when I compared them by recording them to a WAV file one after the other before I flogged my 12" copy. The 12" is much longer and seeing as "Get Ready" starts to get boring after about 3 minutes the 7" suits me fine! Each to their own etc.

Thats right, I've had 3 of the Fynal Vynil 45s in the last 9 months or so. Sold 2 at £450-500 each and JM auctioned the last one which went for around £350??? In the same time I've only had one copy of the Bunky 45. Never seen the 12" although I do know of someone who has it.

Same here.

Seen loads on FV but far less on Bunky.

Same goes for the Pages & ZZ & Co from the same era. Loads of 1st presses about but hardly any boots/re-issues/2nd presses or whatever you want to call e'm.

think youre right about pages martin. original is hard enough. but the repress is rarer. why would someone want to press

so few up. not sure about zz tho. mines the first issue according to jm`s book but i keep pulling the repress and the boots

out of boxes for a ton o money orig has better sound quality as well. Al mason was a regular £80/100 record until john

dave the F.V. 7" has been going steady at 350-500 for some time...about 12 turned up over the last year thats why a few have been knocking about....

i know a few 12' collectors who have the AL KIDD version ...an excellent extension of the rather marvellous 7"...

nice to see a few more 12" fans about

as regards the modern boots these were done in very small quantity to satisfy the UK modern market.. eg pages/bunky al mason/family of eve fullsail

i dont really take much notice of JM prices people seem to get carried away in the heat of bidding

I bought Al Mason off Mark Res on this site for £60 not more than 6 months before John Manship auctioned the first copy.

It was open to offers and I made what I thought was a reasonble pitch - I would have probably gone up a few quid more had Mark asked for it... but don't know where the £400 price tag came from other than bidder frenzy.
