But were any of these tracks played on the northern scene ? Frank Elson used to write in Blues & Soul that "Window Wishing" was popular at the Wheel . Heard on a tape a track of hers from '67 called " I Never Knew What You Were Up To" , an utterly brilliant dancer and totally different to her usual Bacharach / David work. LP only ? Sounds great played through a big system. Very catchy. I also love her version of "Oh lord what are you doing to me" from her first album (I think) Regards Alan

Although they did have midweek sessions so it might have been played then. Back in the day, it wasn't easy to get to Manchester from Liverpool midweek so I only made the weekend visits.

We used to joke that this was the worlds first Jungle/Drum 'n'Bass record Love it meself unfortunately dropped my copy (Scepter) on our laminate floor the other day and cracked it(bloody styrene) Cheers Paul PS Don't know if you'd class it as 'northern" but I think "Slaves" (Scepter) is a darn good tune, flip to "April Fools"

Played 'Reach Out' & 'This Empty Place' as a result of this thread - She is seriously undervalued by us Soul fans. Have always rated her sister (De De) as being the more soulful but have just listened to her slowed down version of the Shirelles 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' from the Luther Vandross produced LP 'So Amazing' & you can really hear 'The Church' in her voice. Wandering a bit here as I have just noticed this topic was supposed to be about Northern Dancers!!!!!!!!!! I remember once talking to a girl who did not really know what Soul Music was but whose favorite singer was Dionne & favourite record 'You'll Never Get To Heaven' Pete
