ExYoungSoulie Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I may well be wrong, but wasn't Jackie Wilson supposed to be an excellent boxer?? (Coincidence that I've just mentioned him on another thread!)
Stuart Russell Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Carl Weathers who did You Ought To Be With Me on Mirage was a pro footballer. Jackie Wilson was a Golden Gloves boxer and didn't Joe Frazier cut a record for Motown? Stuart

Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 How about Lee Maye - started out making records in the doo wop era, then played pro baseball with the Milwaukee Braves and Houston Astros, then returned to making records. Boxer Ernie Terrell also made quite a few records in the 60s, some with his sister Jean - later of the Supremes, of course.

I posted a big article out of "In The Neighbourhood" about Lee Maye including discography and his batting stats. It was a couple of months back but can't find it now.

Slightly tenuous but Gil Scott-Heron's father (Giles 'Gil' Heron) was one of the first Black footballers to play in the UK. He played for Glasgow Celtic in 1951 and was nicknamed 'The Black Arrow'.
