That record was " This Is My Song " by Ray Pollard .... A simply blinding version of the Harry Secombe / Petula Clarke standard ; I just cannot believe what I have heard ..... So soulful , so heart wrenching , so brilliant ; words cannot do it justice ..... What record you have heard recently that has this affect of you ? NOEL McKOY - SKATING ON THIN ICE is one of the best tracks that I've heard recently. This is one of the tracks off Levine's Northernsoul 2007 album. Mark Bicknell Posted September 13, 2007 Share Posted September 13, 2007 Many records have blown me away over the years when I first heard them but one that sticks in my mind is Freddie Houston - If I Had Known - Old Town, first heard 'Keb Darge' play this back in the early 80's around Stafford Top Of The World time covered up as 'Herb Ward' I think? wow hairs on the back of the kneck time or what, just had to find out what it was, just had to get one and it took me about 6 months to locate a copy which I got from the late 'Pete Lawson', still have that same white demo in my collection today and it still does it for me. For Me it would have to be "I walked Away" Bobby Paris.. I remember hearing that song for the first time 23 years ago.. going out and buying it on SOS.. Real Soul.... even now I get goosebumps and the funny thing is I have only just got round to buying it.. Reminds me of when I heard Northern Soul for the first time. This is the end - is another. But remembering Suspision's first play at Stafford still makes the hairs on my neck stand up. More recently, my brother bought me the DVD box set of the Paul Smith play and documentary. On the Cd the Harry Deal track nearly knocked me to the floor. Paul Mac told me on here i'd been hearing it for ages at Soul in the City, but until I heard it at home it hadnt registered. Also just heard another vocal to Clarance Carters If it dont fit dont force it, for the first time, but not sure artist, title, label etc (although its on DJ Honkey freebie CD). Without a doubt - the intro is soooooo High Energy. The backing is far too electronic sounding. And it goes on for about a minute too long. On the plus side the blokes got a decent set of pipes, shame the backing spoils it.
