Guest Juddy Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I just picked up a copy of The Showmen, "It Will Stand" / "The Wrong Girl" on Imperial 66033. It sounds just the same as the Minit one, though I don't have that one, to compare it - is it the same recording? When I bought it, I thought it was going to be a different take or something. Guess I didn't realize there was a more common Imperial release. good stuff, though! juddy
Simsy Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Guess I didn't realize there was a more common Imperial release. Think the album track of the wrong girl has two takes, the first being too fast and you can hear someone saying "too fast" on the track, but it's one continuous track. Labels; Issue. Demo
Guest NASHEE Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 That yellow one at the bottom is a little beauty ain't it Ted say's Dave Flynn used to reccon there was about 20 takes of it.
Sebastian Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 The Minit release is from 1962 and the Liberty one is from 1964.
Dazz Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Guess I didn't realize there was a more common Imperial release.
Mace Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Guess I didn't realize there was a more common Imperial release. As far as I know Juddy, the one on Imperial is anything but common. I've given up logging the Minit copies I've seen go through Ebay, whereas I've only ever seen 1 copy on Imperial. In fact I was led to believe it was a mis-press as the usual 45 with that number 66033 has 'It will stand' on one side and 'Country cousins' on the other. I'd certainly sell a Minit copy over an Imperial copy anyday. I was wondering if you'd post about this Dazz. Remember having a conversation with you about this a while ago. Must admit it seems harder to find than Minit copy. P.S. there is a proper copy of a certain Doowop/Soul 45 on ebay tonight...(your old Profiles cover up).....not going for it meself, so if you fancy it....

I think the fact that there's 22 U.S. copies on popsike & all of them are on Minit, & there's not one on Imperial says it all. Nice find Juddy! pottsy

Thanks for the heads up Mace old boy.... just had a quick look and it's already at $225 - is the word out? I'll stick with the boot Hope you are well mate

Guest Juddy Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 That's good news - I'll play it out on Friday and see if the dance floor fills! Glad to know that the 50 cents I spent on it wasn't a ripoff! (Also got Eddie Holman, "Eddie's My Name," a cracked demo copy of Della Reese, "It Was a Very Good Year," which I've been able to fix to perfectly playable, and a mint "Aint That the Truth" by Jr. Walker - one of my faves of his - at 50 cents each! It was a very good day...) To hear more about the bizarre joys of record shopping in Pittsburgh, buy me a pint at the 100 Club or (hopefully) Wolverhampton at the end of the month. cheers, juddy pixxburgh That's right Dazz. Benji Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Tried to upload with Refosoul clip, but no joy .. The Showmen - The Wrong Girl (False Start) wrong_girl.mp3 nice one is it the album version mentioned? and which album did it come from?
Benji Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 In fact I was led to believe it was a mis-press as the usual 45 with that number 66033 has 'It will stand' on one side and 'Country cousins' on the other. Sebastian Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) Official then .... Imperial US and London UK are the ones to have Why? The Imperial release is a reissue from 1964. The original release is on Minit from 1962. No matter how rare the US Imperial or UK London releases are, they shouldn't be of much interest if you're into having tunes on their first issue. In my opinion ofcourse. Edited September 12, 2007 by Sebastian

No matter how rare the US Imperial or UK London releases are, they shouldn't be of much interest if you're into having tunes on their first issue. In my opinion ofcourse. not everyone's after the first issues only, some collect more obscure issues or even UK IMHO the ones to have is the one you first come across, be it minit, UK london, imperial or whatsoever legal release. all 3 releases are collectable, no matter which one was the first. i mean 1962-1964, what's two years difference after 40+ years?
Simsy Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 nice one is it the album version mentioned? and which album did it come from?
Benji Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 thanks! "includes original demo recordings" = no original 60s release? some sort of "best of plus a few out-takes thrown in"? looks very interesting, what label is it?
Pete S Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I've only ever had one copy of the Imperial release. It's very rare. I think we've mentioned this on here once before a long time ago. I don't think the London release is as rare as people think, I've had four or five issues and two demos and thats only when I actively went after it

Pete S Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 That one's on Charly - original release 62' Don't think so Ian. Specially compiled for that late 80's/early 90's release.
Simsy Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Don't think so Ian. Specially compiled for that late 80's/early 90's release. Yeah wasn't sure (see below pic).
Pete S Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Yeah wasn't sure (see below pic). Hmm well Charly wasn't formed til about 1974...
