Val (Chunky) Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 A friend of mine (Tricky) just came back from the states and very kindly gave me a copy of the new Family Of Eve 12" So I thought I would share a clip of this new 12" release with you...........see what you think
Ted Massey Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Not totaly unpleasent, but not for me. I like it cant you post the whole thing up, if it had sounded like that on the original i would not have sold it
Guest garv Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 The intro starts of well & then the funky beat kicks in & i was getting into it, but that vocal & the tempo seems to slow down & it starts to slide badly. Like to hear the full 12 & maybe hearing it out in a club might save it but i doubt it. Sorry if i sound harsh, just my opinion

Jordirip Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Nice brass work on it, but the bass is too busy. I'll stick with the orig all day long I think. Jordi

Mark68 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Keb has a few alternate mixes from their vault. He gave me a blast of them back in January but I don't know what's being released.
Guest Gavin Page Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 It's a nice take Val. Did Trev get one for him self ?
Val (Chunky) Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 It's a nice take Val. Did Trev get one for him self ? Yes mate...he kept the demo....here's a bit more info Family of Eve was a Pittsburgh soul/funk/disco group that laid down a classic 45 in the late 70's that now goes for crazy money on Ebay. "I Want To Be Loved By You" has since been comped, edited, and/or reissued by Keb Darge, Kenny Dope, and Dimitri from Paris. The second label to press the 45, Full Sail, also comissioned a 12″ disco mix of the A-side "Please Be Truthful" back in '79 which never made it to vinyl. Recently, this 12″ mix was discovered in the Full Sail vaults along with a treasure trove of other goodies from the time, including new unreleased tracks as well as alternate versions of many jams, including "I Want To Be Loved By You". These are slated for CD release sometime in the near future, but the real gem is the 12″ they're releasing now. Featuring said 12″ mix of "Please Be Truthful" on the A-side and the previously unreleased uptempo disco funk joint "Get Off On It" on the B-side, this is a hot little piece of Pittsburgh soul music history that might have otherwise never seen the light of day.
Sebastian Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Why is their other 45 hardly ever mentioned? It contains another good dancer in my opinion.
Guest OSCARP Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Did this and the c.d. ever come out, never seen either for sale ??
Guest Juddy Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Did this and the c.d. ever come out, never seen either for sale ?? The only copies I've seen for sale this side of the Atlantic are in the hands of the guys who pressed them - and they seem much more intent on giving them away after a beer or two, than on selling them. I've sent an email and will find out where the 12's can be purchased from. juddy pittsburgh

Richard Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 There's a couple of 12" copies of Please Be Truthful on ebay that are priced too high or there's a couple on musicstack @ £4.50 but about £8 for postage if any good to you. Would love a copy of that cd when and if it comes out
Guest OSCARP Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Thanks for the replies.............Hope Juddy turns something up...........regards Barry
Tricky Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I picked these up from the guy that knew the label / studio owner.Between them they had 5 hundred 12,s issued and a box of 25 demos.I don,t honestly think the cd made it into production though. They came from DJ Records out of Carnegie near Pittsburgh airport.Over the years had loads of superb records out of him but boy is he hard work to deal with.Bye the bye he lost all his stock in the floods of three years ago and anything he turns up now goes to the Bay.Pure chance that i could be bothered to call in and see him because he really is a miserable git.He probably still has copies. Guest Juddy Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Thanks for the replies.............Hope Juddy turns something up...........regards Barry OK! Finally heard back from the man, and he does seem to have some copies left, although he didn't tell me how much yet... Anybody who's interested in a copy of this - being, remember, the NEW 12" release (I'm not sitting on a box of originals!! ) please shoot me a PM so I know how many to ask about. At least three or four it seemed like? As for the CD, I think Tricky's right and nothing ever happened. Will confirm that today or tomorrow. cheers! juddy pittsburgh
Md Records Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I met Chuck Guzelli at the "Attic" one time, and then he turned up at Juddy's night in the Burgh. He gave Johnny Beggs & myself copies of the 12" to play out, and was very keen to get his product "out there" - nice guy! Des Parker

Doesn't have any distro or anything overseas (hint!) Got a few on the way tomorrow or so - had a few people PM me for copies; gonna post over in Sales as well. PM me if you want a copy. Still no word on the price, but i'm sure it'll be very reasonable. i'll respond to PM's once I know the price and a definite number on copies he can sell. thanks, all!!
George M Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Hi Justin! Beans is one of the most sour & paranoid record shop owners I've ever met. I recently persuaded Kym Fuller to take a slight detour & drive me there as part of my interest in "record shop tourism" (pointlessly going to has-been shops just to inspect them). I bought a copy of this Family of Eve 12" out of a sense of guilt, having rather shocked & offended his wife by getting her to unwittingly play a really offensive xxx record over the shop stereo. Things got a bit strange as I then proceeded to question Beans about the 13-year old child star he manages. He got really animated on the subject, and when he started playing us some of the amazingly bad tracks ("he was only 11 when he did this one!"), it was definitely time to leave.
Md Records Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I only went there once, George - As soon as I walked in the Store he said "Those aren't the prices on the records, you have to bring 'em up to the counter and I'll price them" So what were the mysterious numbers ie. $8/$10/$6 on the corner of EVERY record in the store??? Des Parker
