Richard Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Hi all Have just come accross You Did It For Me - Al Wilson on Playboy and was thinking its quite a nice tune so picked one up and wondered if there any other decent tracks on Playboy worth picking up Cheers
Guest Adrian Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Hi all Have just come accross You Did It For Me - Al Wilson on Playboy and was thinking its quite a nice tune so picked one up and wondered if there any other decent tracks on Playboy worth picking up Cheers Be Concered by Al Wilson is a great tune in MHO, 70's social message, cheap too, infact like all the Al Wilson 7's on Playboy, the Lp which contains most of them is cheap too.
Guest Adrian Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Forgot that Weapons of Peace are on Playboy too. This Lifes About to Get Me Down (Its a b-side to Roots Mural Theme) Mighty Hard Man (Quite disco, again a b-side to Just Can't Be that Way) Both nice I think.
Baz Atkinson Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 GREAT LOGO WILL POST A FEW WHEN MY USB IS SORTED TODAY,COME CLOSER IS TOP SOUND BY BUCK,AND OF COURSE BE CONCERNED DEFINETLY ONE OF MY FAV SEVENTIES SOUL TRACKS WITH GREAT SOCIAL MESSAGE IN ALSO. BAZ A
Guest Adam G Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I agree with the Buck releases " Its gonna be alright" being my favourite just got that chunky stabbing brass sound I like. Adam
okehgaz Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Think the Weapons of Peace also released an album on the label. Was it the only album issued by Playboy? Major Lance had a couple of things issued by the label as well.
Guest Polyvelts Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 The recently discussed Percy and Them 'sing a sad song' was on Playboy, a sweet slowtempo number
Guest Adrian Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Think the Weapons of Peace also released an album on the label. Was it the only album issued by Playboy? Yep Weapons of Peace had an Lp on the label, and no not the only LP, Al Wilson released an lp which contains most of his 45's
Djmelismo Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I´m pretty sure I have some other soul stuff also on Playboy Records. However, my memory is short and I don´t want to search the Net for things Playboy related, especially not when at work
Harrogatesoul Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Fantastic logo - The already mentioned 'Be Concerned' is just sublime - Flip it for his excellent version of 'I've Got A Feeling' and yuo've an essential double sider IMO. Also love Shawne Jacksons excellent slowie 'He May Be Your Man'. Rich

Guest Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 See this nice and illustrated article about Playboy Records, by a great spanish Soul DJ and writer: https://www.flickr.com/photos/alexs4r/284647096/ Here I also send some opinions, under the nickname of «soulero61» Peace & Soul Food (and sex, also )
boba Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Yep Weapons of Peace had an Lp on the label, and no not the only LP, Al Wilson released an lp which contains most of his 45's There are a bunch of LPs on the label, including more than one weapons of peace LP. There just was a thread here about the sharon cash LP.
Tsu Tomatoes Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Think the Weapons of Peace also released an album on the label. Was it the only album issued by Playboy? Major Lance had a couple of things issued by the label as well. The LP was released with 2 different covers and slightly different tracklistings as well.

I always check out his monthly recommendations. It´s a pity the text is in Spanish, a language I do not master. Here I also send some opinions, under the nickname of «soulero61» I also contributed to the Soul Portrait site earlier this year, submitting some record reviews - written in English Cheers Melismo
Daved Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Hamilton, Joe Frank & Dennison - Now That I've Got You is a great song.
Anoraks Corner Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Major Lance had a couple of things issued by the label as well. For the completist...his reworking of 'Um Um Um Um Um Um' also came out on Japanese Playboy.
Ian Dewhirst Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Also there's a great million mile an hour poppy stomper called "It Ain't Gonna Happen To Me Again" by Paul Clemens on Playboy...... Ian D
Steve Edgar Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 For the completist...his reworking of 'Um Um Um Um Um Um' also came out on Japanese Playboy. is that the cut that came out on Contempo's first ever release over here? wonder if the current fave Contempo track by major lance his vocal to Fabulous Echoes "Dont You Know I Love You" was a Playboy release? steve
