Guest Ferrett Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 As a soul record collector, I've always fancied getting hold of a record that was actually recorded or released on the date of my birth. This would be particularly good if it was a nice date stamped demo. I was born on 27th May 1970. Does anyone know any good soul tunes that were released on or near that date? Don't know why, but just thought it would be a nice little addition to the collection. Ferrett

Denbo Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 I,ll ask my mate for you,if he don,t know then nobody will i,ll get back to you soon!! Helen Yeah, I've always wanted that too. I used to search through all kinds of books on Blues, R&B, and Soul for a recording that occured on the 1st September 1951. Yes, it's my Birthday today. So, if your mate could find one or more for my birth date too, it would be much appreciated. Think of it as a Birthday present to me. Cheers.

The number 1 song on the R & B chart on 1st September 1951 was 'Don't You Know I Love You' by the Clovers. Happy Birthday !

Dave Rimmer Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 What about 27th May 1970 though? Dunno mate. I got the Clovers info from a book called 'On This Day In Black Music History'. It's got a page a day through the year and has all sorts of random facts about black music for that day in various years. Unfortunately whilst there is a page for 27th May, there isn't anything for 1970. Didn't realise you were still such a young pup anyway, sure you haven't knocked five years off
Jellybean Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Hows about 24th November 1963 for me and 4th January 1964 for my hubby Martin??
Denbo Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 There you go,thanks Dave saved me asking!! "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" hope its a good un!! Helen Thanks guys BUT I'm really after a record that was 'recorded' or 'released' on my birth date. Having said that, I appreciate you taking the time to come up with the Coasters. Cheers. If all else fails, that'll do nicely.

Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 What about 27th May 1970 though? I can check 'new releases' for you next week, but in the meantime I can tell you that the Moments' "Love On A Two Way Street" was occupying pole position on the Billboard Soul Charts on that day...

Ferrett My demo of Bobby Reed - The Time Is Right For Love / If I Don't Love You - Bell has a date stamp on of May 1st 1970 (done at a radio station?). Perhaps it got released 26 days later? https://www.thisdayinmusic.com/member/birthdayno1.php Have a look here to see what was number 1 on your birthday. Take 9 months off see what you might have been conceived to!

Ferrett I don't know, but I do know that you are only 6 days older than me - so while some clever so and so finds your tune, maybe they can find my one too 3rd June 1970

Ferrett Surely this is an impossible ask, as in some quarters Soul officially died on 31st December 1969 oh and 4th May 1956 in case anyone's interested. Tony
