Theresa Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Ahhh, just read the whole thread - so many fantastic tracks, including some proper smile-inducers and heart-stabbers I'd forgotten about but will always associate with different nights around the country. Yes, lots are overplayed or not in the least bit rare, but who cares? Here's a small selection from my squillions of favourites, in no particular order: Charade - Four Tracks The game is over - Brown Sugar To be in love - MAW feat India What's your name? - Leon Ware Your love's so wonderful - Natural Four One-nighter - Dynamic Superiors The inner side - Shazz Optimistic - Sounds of Blackness (is there anything much more uplifting than this?) Somehow somewhere there's a soul heaven - Deep Sensation Papillon - Luther Vandross Sweet tears - Roy Ayres What the child needs - Terry Ronald Next lifetime - Erykah Badu (still gets me you b*****d!) Another star - Kathy Sledge Gemini lady - Ron Henderson Spread love - Al Hudson And not forgetting the only track that'll get me up at the work's Christmas do or dodgy wedding - Native New Yorker by Odyssey! Mattfox Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Hi, I'm just wondering what peoples modern soul favourites were? what choons are killing you while you are listening to, which ones make you smile??? which ones make you satisfied??? Any recommendations? cheers matt hi, shall I expand this topic and ask the people for their "soul faves" even if it's nu, northern, southern, raw or crossover? cause this topic is about joy to the music...it shouldn't matter what subgenre we are talking about...whatcha think, guys??? we are open minded, aren't we??? cheers, m.
Guest Beeks Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 EH? Thought you used to work with Mike Stevens at Fat City. Indeed...I used to work the front counter..him ans Madhatter the rear...what I am saying is...modern to the Northern scene is 70s...what I call modern and you oldies call modern is completely different...so whenever anyone posts up fave modern soul tunes it confuses me haha...for the record I HATE the term Nu Soul *shivers*

Kev Moore Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 got to be this for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLEK0UZH4cs...feature=related Loved this one made me chuckle to my wellies. Reading this thread makes me think that IMO quite a few of you don't buy Modern soul. Am I wrong? Lots of the stuff being listed ,although great sounds; I've been listening and dancing to for 20 years. What floats my boat is hearing new tunes and appreciating what's happening out there now ...and there's an abundence of it. Here's just one example of a tune I keep going back to from this year. IMO the whole CD is excellent. ok lets get past the-'It aint vinyl' Track 9 is a touching tribute to his daughter who died-she was studying to be a doctor-remember not long ago Black Americans didn't even have the right to vote. However after also losing his brother-Mr Fields went on and finished this project. Beautiful music from a Beautiful family man. Read the notes. This tune always fills me with sadness and hope. The sadness and loss Tony Fields feels and the optimism I hear in the creativity he has in writing such an emotive and lovely song. This IS soul.-maybe not for northern dancefloors but soul non the less. No sound bytes here-I sggest that IMHO some of you should put a few less sheckles into JM et al. pockets (sorry John-I know you run a fantastic buisness) and help suppoet a few more of the worthy talents out there trying to earn a crust. Do yourselves a flavour...check more of these artists out-for the greater good of soul music. Cheers Kev Moore P.S. Anyone wanting a copy of a Modern cd I put together recently-mostly late 90's-2008 please PM me and I'll send them out while I've copies left. Cheeers again Kev
