Guest D'Arcy Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Well I'm no expert but I first heard this about 10 years ago on an 'Acid Jazz' CD ------brilliant tune imo Jez, Robbie Vincent first played this as an import on his Saturday morning show on radio London. Within weeks it had become an absolute ANTHEM, and remains close to many peoples hearts. Just oozes class, like so much from this underated singer. Just goes to prove that there was an awfull lot more to the "Southern Soul Scene" than Jazz Funk and commercial dance tracks. ATB D'Arcy

Lfcjunkie Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Great call. By the way, I´ve always thought that Randy Brown was a member of the Newcomers. That´s what is says in all reference books and album liner notes, but Randy Brown himself, when visiting the UK, said that he never was a member of that group! Anyone who can shed some light on the matter? Melismo i think it was the mad lads melismo atb dave

Barry she will be pestering me forever to get a copy now barry..the smile on her face when you played it saturday night regards moldie ps..did you get a copy of that tune?
Cunnie Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 great toon sean..is it available on a single or is it album only? regards moldie Very very rare on a 7" release. Only know of 1 or 2 copy's. On Blaster like the album. 7" version a slightly different take as well & also shorter.

Cunnie Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 So you selling your second copy Cunnie? if so let me know, great tune as you say, I kept off here for same reason until Jacko came on Barry Already promised to someone else Barry but if I'm lucky enough to stumble on another on my Eastern shopping trips it's yours mate
Cunnie Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 thanks for info....what about cost etc? regards moldie About £150 to £200 for a Blaster album but you'll have to raise the bar a hell of a lot higher than that for a 7" copy if it ever becomes available. Also got a legitimate release on one of the Keb Darge BBE Soul Spectrum albums but you don't see vinyl copy's of them that often these days. Would guess around £25 for a vinyl copy or around £10 for the CD album. Both the Soul Spectrum albums are worth tracking down as some fantastic tracks on them.
Guest Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Already promised to someone else Barry but if I'm lucky enough to stumble on another on my Eastern shopping trips it's yours mate Yea just went back to remind me of your earlier PM, need to get into gear quicker, thanks for the offer. Barry

Still Diggin Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I'll have a go if someone could tell me what Modern Soul IS? It is soulfull black american music that utilizes modern day and current up to date production techniques.99.9% of the records mentioned so far are just 70's & 80's oldies. They ceased to be modern soul thirty years ago . The problem now is many hang on to old well respected artists doing new stuff which is often very poor, or new artists doing old stuff. Very sad imo. However if that way inclined try Lew Kirtons take on 'Open the door to your heart' cd cut. I like Elements of life 'Live your life for today' .as being a good example of modern soul, infact try the whole cd. Andy 1
Westender Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I guess definitions are pretty much down to individuals judging by some of the tracks/artists listed. You could say a "modern" record is anything recorded post 1969. At the end of the day its what engages our head, heart and feet. Labels don't seem to me to be that important. Ultimately it's all Soul isn't it?
Sikirby Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 A few favourite Mecca and Wigan spins Cashmeres - Cashing In Dorothy Morrison - I Can't Go Without You Oscar Perry - Main String Larry Houston - Let's Spend Some Time Together Kenni Burke - Let Somebody Love You Bobby Hutton - Lend A Hand
Guest Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) Top shout!! Would have to be my choice when talking "modern oldies", so to speak. Cheers, Mark R Edited February 10, 2015 by Guest
