Guest Arcticsoulboy Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Hi all, "Ain´t nothing like your love" by the Charisma Band - is it rarer as a demo or an issue? And what is the current value of it these days? I´ve heard whispers that the demo is much harder than the issue, so can someone please enlighten me? TIA / L

Guest MARTIN SNOW Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Hi all, "Ain´t nothing like your love" by the Charisma Band - is it rarer as a demo or an issue? And what is the current value of it these days? I´ve heard whispers that the demo is much harder than the issue, so can someone please enlighten me? TIA / L This is a rare occasion where talk about a big money 45 on here comes up and I actually possess a copy, though I was lucky to pick mine up for a quid by pure chance having no prior knowledge as to the value of it, but hearing it and realising it was a good tune ! The issue copy is far more desirable from an all-round collectors point of view (IMO anyhow) as it has a superb funk flip, titled "Charisma Road". This is the copy I have, and whilst I wouldnt part with it, Rod Shard did offer me £450 for it back in 1998. Whilst researching this record by way of my colossal database of writers, producers and musicians taken from records in my own personal collection, I established that the Charisma Band were an early incarnation of the 80's act Colors who had 4 good boogie twelves between 1981 and 1984. Interestingly Vaneese Thomas was the vocalist on Colors "Am I gonna be the one" from 1983, and Ronald Thomas (related ?) is one of the members on the Charisma Band cuts we're talking about here. Which leads me on to this question, does anyone know who the female vocalist on "Ain't Nothing" is ? Could it possibly be Vaneese Thomas ? For those who have never seen the credits on the issue copys funk flip you would be unlikely to know any of the above as "Aint Nothin" only mentions Ronald Thomas as the writer, so this info may be fresh and of interest to a number of folk on here. Had I a camera I would have posted up the funk flip label, maybe someone could do such please ? Both sides of the record are produced by Cuba Gooding and Luther Simmons from The Main Ingredient. Members of Charisma Band also turn up in Zalmac (TSOB 1982), and on various independent label boogie twelves from the early eighties, including one particular fave obscurity of mine, Bobby Cash Redd "Skate Party People," which at £28.33 still remains the most expensive purchase I have ever made for my own collection. Its interesting to note I now sound like John Motson don't I ! The Karisma record "Got you dancing" on Sounds of the Universe label from around 1980 is the same outfit. Now that leads me on to another link, is the Braithwaite on the Buddah 45 an early appearance from top bassist (now deceased) Wayne Braithwaite ? Unless someone really has seriously detailed info on Charisma's early members then I guess I shall never know. More contributions eagerly awaited. In the meantime I must dash down to Redhill station to note down the numbers from a rake of Freightliner wagons coming through behind a Brush Type 4 shortly. Martin
