Guest andyrattigan Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 (edited) R.I.P. "Would you believe in me" is the cream of seventies soul. What a voice. Edited August 19, 2007 by andyrattigan
Tony Smith Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 What a shame, his "What a Difference.." being one of the greats that never made as big as it should.
Mark R Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Such sad news........an amazing talent! RIP Jon! Mark R

Alan Pollard Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Sad news indeed Jon was a fine vocalists, such a distinctive voice, his Columbia outing "What a difference love makes" one of my all time faves. RIP Jon. Best Alan
Guest Karen Heath Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 What a shock...that is very sad news...and far far too young. RIP Jon Lucien
Greg Belson Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I don't often get caught up with R.I.P. threads, but this fellow was totally under-rated and so humble about his gift. I saw him live about 2 years ago in London, and his voice just swept me away - and all from sitting on a stool on the corner of the stage. Mr Lucien - I'll miss you, but cherish what you brought to my ears and my soul.
Guest Goldwax Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 A sad loss indeed. Would you believe in me, Who will buy, Listen Love, Search for the inner self - all favorite tracks of mine and live shows at the Jazz Cafe always different class. RIP Jon.
Djmelismo Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Hard to believe that he´s gone. Today will be a Jon Lucien day. Will pull out of some of my favourites from the man. R.I.P.
Guest Dr Bob Jones Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Echo all the sentiments expressed here. I was fortunate to do the warm up set before his appearance @ London's Jazz Cafe a few years back. Such an underated voice, and an inspirational guy. R.I.P , your music will live on ......oh yes Dr Bob Jones
Barry Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 From his own website https://www.jonlucien.com/, JON LUCIEN DIED ON THE MORNING OF AUGUST 18, 2007 OF RESPIRATORY FAILURE and OTHER COMPLICATIONS. JON WAS ONE THE MOST REMARKABLE MUSICIANS, SONGWRITERS and SONG INTERPRETERS THAT GRACED OUR LIVES REST IN PEACE JON LUCIEN - JAN 8, 1942 to AUGUST 18, 2007 "I would say my sound is a romantic sound...it's water...it's ocean...it's tranquility." More than any other singer, Jon Lucien captures the essence of romance. His voice is rich and expressive, his best songs are perceptive poetic tales of devotion, trust, hope, harmony and spirituality. Three dimensional parables of love lost and love found and relationships filled with the promise of a new day. He seems to possess an innate ability to evoke an atmosphere and create images not only through his lyrics but the colors of his music. In the 28 years since the release of his debut album, connoisseurs and assorted in-the-know types have spoken his name with the utmost hushed reverence. His seamless melding of jazz, R and B, Caribbean rhythms and Brazilian music proved to be a decisive early influence on what would be simplified and marketed as the twin formats of "quiet storm" and "smooth jazz," although very few artists working in either format approach Lucien's level of artistry or innovation, not to mention originality...
