bozaboy Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) of the best and quickest way to "dispose" of a smallish record collection. Life circumstances mean that I will shortly need to get shut of my lovingly put together (since '98)collection of 45's (and a handful of albums), circa 2.5 - 3K or so. All sleeved up with the exception of about 500 or so more recent purchases that haven't gone through the washer. Not all mint by any stretch, they're "working" copies. I'm assuming that we're talking fairly major dealers here? I need to ship them out all in one go, so the idea of someone picking over the best bits and leaving the rest will not work. I need to put my hands on the cash in one lump as well. Help/advice/sarky comments please Ooops! should this go into "Look at your box"? Edited August 23, 2007 by bozaboy

This is the only way to get instant cash, but the down side is that you don't get as much for them as you would if you spread them over 4 or 5 lists a couple of weeks apart.

I think the best way to sell them is to sell them yourself so to speak i.e. list them, put them on Ebay etc. you will get the best prices but if you need the money quickly then a dealer is your best option, just remember that a dealer needs to make some money on top so you would be possibly looking at 60% or less of the retail value. If the titles are strong then you should have no problem moving them on, condition is also paramount so there are several points to consider. Good luck as it's a hard thing to do selling the lot. Harrogatesoul Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 If you can be bothered to type a list (or at least a partial one) I suggest getting them on Ebay as decent lots do tend to sell pretty well. You can always put a realistic reserve on them (or to escape any fees payable suggest offers are welcome...) Any choicier pieces you can always sell separately here or on Ebay. I would have thought many dealers are up to their eyeballs in 45s and wouldn't give too much for them unless there are choice pieces etc. Rich
pikeys dog Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 As already stated, selling to a dealer will pull in a lot less cash - something like 35% - 40% of ''value''. If the records are in various states you can knock that down a fair bit as well.
