Tomangoes Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Theres enough happening on the scene to bring you down, especially if you take things too serious, but what gets you back up again. For me (I think I have been put in the MP3 moron box) its when a few top tunes come on ( ipod, computer, or soul night) that I havent heard in ages. Just listening to Scratchy, TW. Not sure why but it sounds fantastic. Its probably best If I dont hear it again for another year, but for now Im where its at. Ed
Pete S Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Sometimes when I'm feeling down, I happen to go in the bathroom for one reason or another and there's often some of Dee's underwear hanging out of the washing basket, often I can just make out 3 digits and they say "38C" and it never fails to put a smile on my face.
Tomangoes Posted August 22, 2007 Author Posted August 22, 2007 What a way to talk about your mother. Ed
mischief Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I've got some blinding mates from the soul scene.. and meeting up with them is what going out is all about... I always get home with an aching face where I have had a good laugh.. nice venue - good crowd - some bloke or Lady behind the decks givining it thier best.. I don't care if its rare or what as long as the dj gives it their best shot.. "What more could a boy ask for"
Guest in town Mikey Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Pulling out a track i've not heard for years. to add extra joy, find its one of the old £1 tracks i bought. We spoke about it a while ago, but hearing April Stevens - Wanting you, after about a decade absolutely had me jumping for joy like after a goal at a football match. THATS why I got into this music.
Peter99 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Me - I just love cooking good food. Soul music in the background, copious amounts of alcohol - and me pottering round the kitchen making something really good. I cook real food every night - I absolutely love being in the kitchen. If anyone wants any receipes - give me a shout!
Guest Matt Male Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 What picks me up on the soul scene? DANCING DANCING DANCING

macca Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 (edited) In Spain, those of us (the majority) that live in flats have things called buzones or mailboxes. Not the American bird box type, but a wall of slots. On any given morning, you call the lift & head down to the lobby. You open your buz³n & there it is, the brown package you've been so eagerly waiting for. Sometimes, there maybe another, adding to the general excitement & buzz. All plans to go to the bank, do the shopping, meet friends for a beer etc go out the window. You call the lift & head back to your flat, sometimes not even closing the door behind you. Stanley knife in hand, you feverishly open the mailer to check its contents. You then pop the record on the decks & hear that thumping intro, you shout yes & start fidgeting, maybe the odd clap, but not necessarily moving away from your deck. after this ritual is complete, you calmly file the record away & go about your business as if nothing had happened. "Sorry I'm late guys, but you just wouldn't be able to grasp it if I told you why." A NS high? I think so. Can anybody else out there report this worrying condition? Edited August 22, 2007 by macca
Stubbsy Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Here's 3 that spring to mind: 1. Hearing something new I haven't heard before and thinking what a choon. 2. If I'm feeling pissed off just slinging a few records on usually puts a smile back on my face. 3. Going out to a Soul night and seeing everyone having a good time.
Pete S Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Waking up and seeing this little chap every morning gives me the highest high you could ever imagine...
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Same as Pete. Only with my Helen and Kim, of course, rather than with his good lady and delightful little lad. Music comes a moderate second to the pleasure I get from being able to call myself a family man...
Simsy Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 'An All Time High, What picks you up?' Knowing of the existence of Northern Soul. 25 years of memories, sounds and friends. The euphoria I feel when I secure ownership of a record I have loved since I was a teenager.
KevH Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 ALL TIME HIGHS?..apart from family of course.....going out with friends to a nite, having a good time ,hearing new sounds,,,and having a bloody good laugh.....despite all that life throws at you. Long may it continue......great thread.
Simsy Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 ...apart from family of course..... Yep echo that. Wasn't sure if tomangoes meant soulfully speaking what picks you up, or generally speaking. I thought the former?
Pete S Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Wasn't sure if tomangoes meant soulfully speaking what picks you up, or generally speaking. I thought the former? Dunno, there was no mention of soul/music/anything, just said whats your all time high
Simsy Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Dunno, there was no mention of soul/music/anything, just said whats your all time high That's very true, depends on how mindful tomangoes is of the All About The Soul section. Save for that we'd be in freebasing! But enough of this spiff balling ...

But enough of this spiff balling ... Trouble is, I didn't even notice what section it was in cos I always click 'new posts' instead of doing them by section
Guest rachel Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 That's very true, depends on how mindful tomangoes is of the All About The Soul section. Save for that we'd be in freebasing! But enough of this spiff balling ... It's kind of teetering on the edge at the moment, I thought (assumed) Mr Tomangoes meant soul-wise, as an antidote to the 'All Time Low' thread... see which way it goes Less talk of underwear if you want to stay in AATS though
Guest Karen Heath Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 And there is enough underwear in freebasing already.
Guest Bearsy Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Waking up every morning and having the most important things in life around me, wife and kids, everything else in life is an option and i make the most of life and just think positive and look forward to the day and then the next day, Family, Football, Soul, Friends, in no particular oder but get them all at the same time then wow what a great time i must be having life is too short to worry about anything else fun fun fun
mrs soul Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 having a kiss and cuddle off the old man and holding his hand, I know its daft, but we really do love each other to bits, even though he,s gotten fatter and balder watching your kids make a good life for them selves, and going in the front room, putting a record on the turntable, at full blast, and dancing round the room, and saying to your self, god that was great!I love that tune, and the neighbors thinking I am potty!!

"What more could a boy ask for" 10000% on the nail, my wife always says I come back from these events grinning like a Montivedeo mouse Love the drive up north too, my mates have wonderful memories and great feelings for humour, NS tunes on the CD, guessing how long the que to get in will be, will the North Staffs hotel have any running water, we'd settle for a slow jogging stuff, honest............ The NS scene is so healthy right now that the whole Red Army couldn't take it on.

Guest nubes Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 My son giving me a kiss on the cheek when i see him out with his mates..and saying he loves me...lifts me into orbit.....having a shite day at work and getting on the 30 min journey home away from the congested Town Centre into the green countryside outskirts of where i reside.....playing my music whilst i am tidying and getting dinner ready....pouring myself a spritzer whilst in the bath i await the menfolk to arrive home.....blisss....Delxxx
macca Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 two serious questions. 1. what's a spritzer? 2. are the uruguayans big cheese pervs? I knew they liked their beef...
Soulfinger Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 When I'm browsing and find a tune I haven't played for years. Stick it on and two and half minutes of pure joy. Happened today with These Tears - Mary Johnson - gorgeous!
Soulsmith Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I always get home with an aching face where I have had a good laugh.. Recently its been at my expense
Tomangoes Posted August 23, 2007 Author Posted August 23, 2007 Come on theres more response to the all time low thread than the all time high thread.............. We need more Tempos than Shaun Robinson, if you get my drift. Off to Rife tomoz, so Manhattans ear we cum just like a guided missile. Ed
Guest bill storey Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Going out to a doo, having a few beers and thinking I might not dance much tonight after a long humdrum week, then hearing tunes that I can't help dancing to (albeit in a not so sophisticated way) half way throught he night changing the shirt getting too sweaty and dancing my heart out. After this I am on top of the world, the number one soul man. IMHO
