What's the best set you've ever heard at a do, one that was so mind-blowingly good it's always stuck with you.

I've got a couple that spring instantly to mind:

Molly at the Brighton Volks alldayer a few years back - Molly was so up for it & so were the crowd that i'm sure that the room was actually shaking!

Steve Csordas at the Concorde Allnighter in Brighton a few months back - A few djs had gone on before & played perfectly respectable sets but Steve just came on & lifted it to a completely different level, i couldn't help but dance to every single record in his set (something i've very rarely ever done to anyones set), it was just all consuming.

Simon

It has to be one of Richard Searlings sets at the Casino - circa 79. Great 60's newies and some great early modern. Some of Sams sets too - but can't be specific.

Butch - Aberdeen Northern Soul Club 5th or 6th anniversary a couple of years back I think.

Small intimate venue. He was on fire.

Soul Sams Modern sets around 1982 to 85 were brilliant ( thanks to the hard work of John A and Dave R of course )

and Robins, Stafford sets, around 1985 , although not many heard em ..

Agreed - sheer quality across the spectrum, added to the fact that the majority of the sounds where as fresh as.

I do as you know Ken, just that those two dos sprang to mind & even if i say so myself we've had a few good dos in Brighton in recent years.

If you wish me to go outside London i agree with Jo about Ian Clarke at Cleethorpes, his sets lifted the event to a different level.

Ian Clark in his prime takes some beating, early 100 Club, circa 1982/83 Brooks Brothers, Paris, Jock Mitchell, Cashmeres, Bobby Kline, Chico Lamar, Eric Mercury, Roger Hatcher and so it goes on...top man, done my nut in and cost me a fortune...lol

Hi Chris,

Richard Searling at The Ritz sprang to my mind too. The first spot Neil Jones did at Fleetwood a few years ago was pretty cool too, as was Sean Livesey's spot at Blackpool Hilton last year.

ooh, too difficult!!.. I shall think a bit more. Good question though.

There was one particular night where Keb and Guy both had about 30 new things they wanted to play. EACH. Man that was one incredible set of sets.

One sticks out in particular. The ladies nights at the 100 club are exceptional. Maybe its the heart talking, but That girl lynne's set at one was superb. Even chucking in a popular Supremes tune.

Rod Dearlove at Yarmouth, about 10 years ago.

The lad had the balls to drop 3 incredible deep tracks, in succesion, around Midnight.

Cleared the floor... but he blew us all away nevertheless, .... and the dancefloor was rammed thereafter!

Definately the most memorable set ever (IMO).
