Guest stash313 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 A new album from The Temptations due in a months time, sadly another covers album but again produced by the legend that is Steve Harvey... Here's the details - "Back to Front" The Temptations record 12 Classics for their newest CD entitled "Back to Front," scheduled for release on New Door/Universal on September 18. Includes covers of "Hold On, I'm Coming" by Sam and Dave, "Wake Up Everybody" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, "Don't Ask My Neighbor" by the Emotions and many more. Release date September 18, 2007 They're looking the part and the addition of Bruce Williamson whose only around 30 may well be a master stroke, according to Steve Harvey he's tearing it up on their version of Barry White's Never Gonna Give You Up. Keep your eye's peeled for more details.
Guest Paul Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I can understand why they do this (to a degree) and I wish them well, but it has to be said that "The Temptations" is just a brand name and this kind of album sounds dull and predictable before I've even heard it. No disrespect to any individuals but it's getting dangerously close to tribute bands singing karaoke favourites. Whatever happened to originality and creativity? Paul Mooney
Dave Moore Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I daresay a few middle aged punters will pull the CD off the shelf at Virgin due to the name, but if the guys have real belief in their talent as a group, they should break out of The Temptations safety cocoon, (surely that's what it is now), and build their own reputations and fanbase. Mr Williamson wasn't even a glint is his father's eye when the real guys made the name. I think your right Paul, most Tempts fans see this as a tribute band now. Guest stash313 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Here's the tracklisting... Some interesting choices there, Wake Up Everybody with Bruce Williamson could be a fantastic propostition if done right... The Temptations: Back To Front The Temptations Never Gonna Give You Up The Temptations Hold On I'm Comin' The Temptations Wake Up Everybody The Temptations Minute By Minute The Temptations I'm In Love The Temptations Don't Ask My Neighbors The Temptations Love Ballad The Temptations Let It Be Me The Temptations How Deep Is Your Love The Temptations Back In Love Again The Temptations Respect Yourself BACK TO FRONT, THE NEW ALBUM FROM THE TEMPTATIONS, FEATURES FRESH TAKES ON CLASSIC POP AND R&B HITS, FROM "RESPECT YOURSELF" AND "HOLD ON, I'M COMIN'" TO "NEVER NEVER GONNA GIVE YA UP" AND "HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE" With 2006's Grammy-nominated Reflections, The Temptations performed the Motown classics they always loved but never had the chance to previously record. Now, with Back To Front (New Door Records/UMe), released October 23, 2007, you'll find these Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees and one of the most popular and enduring singing groups of all time performing some of the biggest Pop and R&B songs in history. For Back To Front, their 48th album of new recordings, and second for New Door Records/UMe, The Temptations put their incomparable stamp on such classics as "Never Never Gonna Give Ya Up" (the ageless Barry White smash), Sam and Dave's seminal "Hold On, I'm Comin'," the Staple Singers' self-assuring "Respect Yourself," the Bee Gees' monumental "How Deep Is Your Love" and the timeless standard "Let It Be Me" as well as "(Every Time I Turn Around) Back In Love Again" (popularized by L.T.D. with Jeffrey Osborne). Also featured are "Wake Up Everybody" (the crossover giant from Philly soul legends Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass), "I'm In Love," "Minute By Minute" (the Doobie Brothers' hit), "Don't Ask My Neighbors" and "Love Ballad," (made popular by jazz giant George Benson).

Paul Mooney I am with you on this , Paul ...... It seems that it is too much like hard work for many artists , to produce original and creative work , and the easy route for them , is to release an album of cover versions ..... I doubt , despite the album containing outstanding versions of a Barry White track and other " classics " - according to the publicity blurb - it will sell in sufficient numbers to those who once held The Temptations in their hearts ......
