I Know Of The Freddy Henchi & The Soul Setters "Um Um Um Um Um" - "Come Down" On Bell #951 (1971) But Nothing About A Pathway Release Of "Clancy"... Can You Post A Clip Of The Song? As far As I Know The Above Is The Don Thomas Produced Demo. Does The Above Clip Sound Like The Patheway Release? Chris
Guest Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Hi Chris , i sold the record a couple of months back , so i cant confirm the don thomas conection or post the clip, but i think it was a hadley murrell production as it was on his label , freddie henchi had another record produced by hadley as well . frank m https://fhband.com/recordings.htm heres a picture of thr 45 Frank, Here's The Reply I Received From Don, Via Jean: I originally asked Don about Clancy. He said the voice on the demo he has is not your dad's. Your dad didn't want to sing it because he had a recording contract at the time and didn't want his voice out there on demos. They got some singer they didn't know from Bklyn or someplace like that and that's the voice on the demo we have. Sometimes these demos are sold as masters, but he doesn't know that this one was. If it was, he wasn't involved. He didn't know the guy who sang it before he did the demo. Nor did he see him after. If it was a master, it's possible the singer did it, but he doubts it. That's Pretty Much How I Remember The Story Behind Clancy Too. Don Was Upset That Jimmy Wouldn't Do It Because He Really Wanted That Jimmy Radcliffe Late Sixties Funky Soul Sound Like You Hear On Things Like "Funky Bottom Congregation" - "Lay A Little Lovin' On Me" Or Even The Earlier Demo They Did Do Called "Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are". So It Seems To Me The Freddy-Henchi And The Soulsetters Record Was Probably Based On The Above Demo. So There You Have It A Cool Background History On A Stomping Funky Track. Cheers Frank.
