Chalky
have seen at £400, whether it sold I dunno, listed one few months back for Andy, can't remember price but feeling it might have been £350...and that one sold. Link to comment Social source share
Harrogatesoul
Guess so Chalky - Think the ones on JM seemed (like many other 45s) to have gone for more. Depends on how quick you want to sell it Sean! Regards, Rich Link to comment Social source share

paultp
Anybody got a current price for an original of this on Reynolds? I remember Shifty telling me that this was a local hit in the San Francisco area and so there should be loads of copies about, he was talking in the thousands. Wonder where they all got to? Guest jinx74
I remember Shifty telling me that this was a local hit in the San Francisco area and so there should be loads of copies about, he was talking in the thousands. Wonder where they all got to? thats not true at all. it was a minor hit and they had hoped to do more but nothing happened. there were 500 or less pressed. thats what the reynolds label owner told me. however i have come across 5 copies over the past 7yrs. dont know if thats a lot or not by yall but it does pop up here every now and then. usually at garage sales or the flea market. what never pops up are the LPs. de la val, lotus, sf express, etc. Link to comment Social source share

Can you give more details of what LP's were issued on the label ? I have the Quinn Harris LP which is excellent but I'm curious about any others ... Guest
I remember Shifty telling me that this was a local hit in the San Francisco area and so there should be loads of copies about, he was talking in the thousands. Wonder where they all got to? That's no where near the truth, Celeste Hardie was a local "miss" not ahit. Almost ALL copies of Celeste Hardy came from Rip Lay's warehouse in Concord, Ca. over the years, especially in the 80s. I found a steady stream of them at that location, maybe 20 to 30 or so in all. One day I did find at least another 30+ in one of the rooms, but "lost" them by the end of the day. Anyone who "worked" the monster stock at Rip's would understand how easy that would be to do. Rod Shard will confirm that as he was a regular visitor, I believe. The "lost" bunch was found many years later by Rico Tee at Rhythm Records, who sold out again over a couple of years from his mailshots. Occasionally, a copy or two may pop up in the bay area. But thousands?? That's yet another Northern Soul untruth, sorry to say. Interestingly though, Bob Catteneo told me once that Villa records "sold" 60,000 of The Checkerboard Squares on Villa and apparently that came directly from Mr. Campbell. Find it hard to believe as I've only ever found a handful over the years. But apparently the flipside was a minor hit..?? Records do certainly disappear into some abyss somewhere.. Neil Rushton
I must have had 50 copies from Bob Cattaneo in the 70's - sold mostly to lads in the West Midlands. Neil Link to comment Social source share
Guest jinx74
Very interesting your comments about the LP's. Can you give more details of what LP's were issued on the label ? I have the Quinn Harris LP which is excellent but I'm curious about any others ... well De La Val has a 45 that has one AWFUL side but i quite like the modern soul flip. their album is cool and i like it but havent really played it for many folks. the lotus is cool. its a japanese guy and some white guys (i dont own the record) doing spiritual jazz instrumental music. thats kind of a bad description actually. overall the record is mediocre but theres one real nice jazzy nod your head track. the sf express, to me, is a crappy jazz record but has some nice players on it. ew wainwright blah blah blah. steve marshall has a jazz lp on the label too. the best part of that record to me is the sf background behind SM. folks dig it though and it always makes me money when i get one. lillian alexander, who has some $$ green label reynolds 45 that i dont care for, also has an lp. the cover is ugly red with a heart on it. paul reynolds had a bunch of test presses at his house. mostly rock related stuff but some okay modern soul. i think chris veltri from groove merchant records is doing a comp of reynolds stuff. though that was some time ago and im not sure if theyre still working on that or not. Guest MARTIN SNOW
I listened to a Celeste Hardie 45 on a yellow label on Ebay a few days ago, which was already heading upwards pricewise. If this so happens to be the record referred to here, then personally I thought it was so mediocre musically, that it wouldnt even warrant a tenner from my pocket. Northern hysteria ? Kidinquisitive
I wonder if the rumour about the "hit" and thousands of copies was someone mixing up her two 45s on Loadstone, which are indeed very common here in the Bay Area. There were thousands of those made and there's such a glut of those around that I don't even bother to buy them anymore for even a dollar. The music on those isn't horrible but doesn't hold a candle to her Reynolds 45 (which is on a purple label in reference to Martin's comment). Full disclosure: I do have a copy of the Reynolds 45 on ebay right now. And yes, turning these up nowadays is no easy task. The days of walking into a warehouse and picking up 30 or 50 copies of something are pretty much over. Boy I wish I was around in those days! Neil Forgot about you mate, yes Bob did have a bunch and i can remember all those you had. Those Celeste Hardie's that Bob had, came from RipLay also, I think. As for the Loadstone records Rip had 100s of every title... but not asingle Ed & Ernie's I hasten to add. So how many Celeste ' 45's are there and whats the approximate price of each. More importantly, are any of them actually great tracks, as that criteria, pardon me for saying, is very often not over-important on this site from my observations. Guest rachel
The copy of 'You're Gone' on eBay at the mo has a big yellow centre in the pic (and a soundclip) - perhaps that's the one you looked at? As to whether it's any good, that's a question of personal taste really! It's been played for years on the scene (some might say overplayed) so some people must like it!! Personally, it was one of the first 70s tracks I got into, am a bit tired of it now, but I like it vocally and melodically. I also like her 'Thank You Love' on Loadstone, though not a 'playing out' record, just a nice chilled out loved up sort of tune. Link to comment Social source share

Guest Matt Male
Classic. Brilliant tune, always will be, despite getting played constantly. Agreed, i never get tired of hearing it. You'd have to have painted on ears not to love it. Superb mid section where she picks it up with 'Accept my apology, come home to me, i'm as miserable as i can be...' My heart just soars. Lovely ending with the trumpets Maybe one of the few it is hard to over play? Unfortunately haven't been able to afford one yet. Most likely by the time i do it will be considered over played...
