Cover-up Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 (edited) Patti Jo's "Make Me Believe In You" has always been an all time favourite of mine - does anyone know anything about her? Both her 45s (Wand and Scepter) are superb, did she cut anything else? The reason for this thread was i just picked up Melba Moore's version yesterday (on "This Is It" album), which is pretty nice. Any other versions except Curtis Mayfield's original??? Edited August 1, 2007 by cover-up

Any other versions except Curtis Mayfield's original??? Yeah she did several records and indeed I have an acetate of hers that wasn't issued that's pretty good. I also have a feature on her in a magazine called "Ebony Stars" with pics of her walking down the road etc....I'll try and find it over the next few days.....pretty good it is.
pikeys dog Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Is Patti Jo really PJ on Tamla or is it another 'Northern Soul Myth' Doesn't sound like her to me, but somebody I know insists it is (no, it isn't Wales Wallace)
Barry Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Used to at Bradford, and still, play a UK version by 'Chantelle'.
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Is Patti Jo really PJ on Tamla or is it another 'Northern Soul Myth' Doesn't sound like her to me, but somebody I know insists it is (no, it isn't Wales Wallace) It's a myth. The Wand Patti Jo lives in Nashville or, at least, she was living in Nashville when I met her quite by chance in the late 1990s. She said that she had recorded the records directly for Curtis Mayfield and that Wand had picked up her contract and the masters. She was adamant that these were her first and only recordings of the 1970s. The PJ on Tamla is surely the white MOR singer Patti Jerome?
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Any other versions except Curtis Mayfield's original??? There's a fantastic rocksteady version on Studio 1 by Devon Russell, where he sings the song on the Studio 1 cut of the rhythm to the Techniques/Slim Smith's "You Don't Care"....

Cover-up Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 Wow! I'd love to hear the rocksteady version, and the Chantelle cut. Any chance of soundclips? And as for "unreleased acetate" - if ever there were two words to get the pulse racing? Obviously I would absolutely LOVE to hear this... More Curtis Mayfield productions???
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 By 'only recordings of the 70's ' do you mean she cut stuff later on Tony? Yes, she had a few tracks on a various artists CD, which came out on a Nashville independent label around the turn of this century. She didn't sound all that much like she used to. but it was unmistakably her nevertheless. And, as I'd met her by that time, I recognised her from her picture on the CD front, anyway. I don't actually have the CD, though, so I can't give you any more details than this, unfortunately....

Here's the Devon, one on Ebay presently, didn't know it but I've copied and pasted the link- I don't have one of the Chantelle but it used to work a Modern dancefloor back in the day. https://media.putfile.com/DEVON-RUSSELL-MAK...-BELIEVE-IN-YOU Edited August 1, 2007 by Barry

That would have been me that played Chantelle, quite hard to find I think and only ever seen 12" copies. Will dig it out later and post a clip.... Edited August 1, 2007 by Awake 502
