you advertise something for sale and state it's for Uk only then some cnut from Australia bids on it and wins it? We don't want to sell it to anyone outside the UK because the item is so heavy...do we have to go through with this sale, and what happens if they leave us negative? Anyone know?

It's a baby's cot mattress...the postage would be more than they could buy a brand new one for!

Why would someone in australia buy a cot mattress from england, that just doesn't make sense

Doesn't help you on this occasion but you can set up your seller preferences in Turbo Lister (assuming you use this?) to automatically block bidders from countries that you don't ship to. So if you put an item up and specify in the postage section that you will post to UK only then only UK registered bidders will be able to bid on it.

Don't use turbo lister Adam, it developed a glitch which meant that about 2 hours worth of typing was wasted and they couldn't solve it on their forum etc! Can't even remember what it was now but even reverting to the old version didn't work.

That was a glitch in the postage opyions, ruined everyones listings! But it has been fixed now so might be worth giving it another go? The option to block bidders from countries you don't post to should still be available in the online form as well though.

Pete, generally if you tick the box UK only then, International bidders cannot technically bid on your item, so along as you didn't allow International bidders then they haven't a leg to stand on so to speak, if it was only in the discription then you may have a problem as they would have been able to bid on the item, even though you stated UK only. The only way to stop international bidders bidding on your item is to make sure when you list the item is that you tick/untick the boxes depending what your default is that allow international bidders.

Usually if you want to place a bid on something, and they don,t ship to your location it tells you before making a bid. Or to contact seller first to find out whether they do or not!!

Yes, that's true. I set up ebay accounts both in the UK and Australia ...and I still use an Oz one sometimes.

Also, I tried to sell a heavy item once and when the guy from France got the postage price (and a link to the Australia Post website to confirm this), he politely asked if he could retract his offer. We then just left good feedback for eachother :(

Pete,

email the guy and explain your case, offerring him the option to get out if he's made a mistake. Not everyone out there is a nutter and if he's not planning to get it sent to a UK address, he's probably brickin' it too :(
