Guest SteveSnow Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 (edited) Nice tache dude When we were little kids, our Gran had an Andre Brasseur LP record that me and my brother loved. We'd beg her to put it on the dansette and then dance round her front room like loons. Twenty five years later I found about the Belgian Popcorn scene and realised I was a big fan at eight years old Edited July 20, 2007 by SteveSnow
Guest Bogue Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 (edited) Nice tache dude He would have mingled quite well at any event early 80's Still love it !! out of vogue or not ! (the record that is ! not the tash ) Edited July 20, 2007 by Bogue
45cellar Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 (edited) Nice tache dude Hi Pete Never seen him before, brilliant. One of my favourite early sounds. < -- Bought this one recently. I still have a place in the collection for this, brilliant Picture Cover, by the way NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE. The Kid, Not a rare record, but reminds me of the Early Days of collecting, found a copy in a second hand shop, wonder what else was there that I missed, there used to be thousands of 60's records at our local second hand shop. is that the Original release in the Country of this records origin, Belgium I think it was although I'm probably wrong. Guest Simon Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Love this tune, always have, time for a revival? Simon
Guest edsuede Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Love this tune, always have, time for a revival? Simon Agree totally - could do with more instrumentals being played at Soul nights full-stop, in MHO. It's tracks like this that have always made Northern Soul so fascinating and hard to define - after all, it's got knack all to do with soul, but still sounds so right at a soul night (I'll be in trouble with the 'soul police' now for saying that!!!)
Guest SteveSnow Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 He looked better without it! Paul HA! That's the very album I was on about earlier in the thread. I haven't seen that sleeve for years Thanks for posting that Paul. Steve (suddenly feeling 8 years old again and craving a sherbert dib dab)
Paul R Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 HA! That's the very album I was on about earlier in the thread. I haven't seen that sleeve for years Thanks for posting that Paul. Steve (suddenly feeling 8 years old again and craving a sherbert dib dab) Steve, if you're in the Crown over August bank holiday, we'll try & get Mischeif to spin "The Kid" Paul
pikeys dog Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Love this tune, always have, time for a revival? Simon Good Lord NO! This had its time and place in the dim and distant past (fortunately) - if it holds great memories for you that's swell - but please don't inflict it on this doggies ears.

Hear hear Mr Dog, jeez 10 posts already on this pile of tripe ...............oh sugar thats 11 now Cheers Paco
Guest SteveSnow Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Steve, if you're in the Crown over August bank holiday, we'll try & get Mischeif to spin "The Kid" Paul I think there was a track on the album called 'Holiday' (or something similar) that I liked better than The Kid, but it was 30 years ago.... Funnily enough, I was talking to Jimmy Drake this afternoon about the Crown - make sure Mischief brings me a sherbert dib dab as well
Pete S Posted July 21, 2007 Author Posted July 21, 2007 Great memories for me too - mainly youth club but I can still see the girls from Wton stomping to this at one of the Wigan oldies allnighters in early 77. It might not have any soul content but nobody can say it's not Northern Soul.
Ste Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 A mate of mine used to have UK cbs demo with labels reversed, so the "Kid" was actually "Holiday". steve

Always thought it sounded like The Buzzcocks Noise Annoys, rather appropriate really. Pretty girls Pretty boys Have you ever heard your mommy scream Noise annoys

Pretty girls Pretty boys Have you ever heard your mommy scream Noise annoys Thing is though, when this was "big", the Buzzcocks were still about 6 years away from being invented. Totally agree with Pete, Not soul, but Northern. Paul
kevinsoulman Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 A mate of mine used to have UK cbs demo with labels reversed, so the "Kid" was actually "Holiday". steve i wonder if all the demos were like that as the boot was wrongly labelled too some one copied it without checking kev

Totally agree with Pete, Not soul, but Northern. Paul It's like with a lot of these records - the difference between hearing them on a pc or record player is massive compared to hearing them at boneshaking volume at an allnighter
Millo Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Could someone post the tune that was played in the early seventies as The Kid, I never heard it played out at the time.

Sheldonsoul Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Remember hearing it on my first ever visit to the casino I was gobsmacked how good I thought it actually was, then on the train home some one had taped the night and it came blasting out again. But my favourite ever Wigan instrumental had to be Harley Hatcher soul hustler ( al de lory discotheque alibi) sounded awesome blasting out of those speakers
