Scubarat Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 (edited) Just over a year ago, my wife opened a Dancewear Shop in the village of Kibworth in Leicestershire. She sells primarily ballet etc. but has started stocking other genre ie. ballroom, jazz. I have suggested there may be a market for NS wear, if only for me and my buddies. My questions to the interested are: 1 - What you would like to see on the shelves? 2 - Would you like off the peg or made to measure? 3 - Would you visit, phone or use the internet? I told my wife that I would support this new venture but only for 3 years. If by then she has not made a £million then I shall be taking over the shop. I will be selling NS Vinyl & motorbikes during the day and at night the shop will be a lap dancing club. Every female in the village wants her to succeed but I am not sure about every male. Who are you rooting for? I will probably tell from your answers. Thanks in advance. Steve D Edited July 18, 2007 by Scubarat

A lady from Bury makes dresses that are popular amongst dancer's. Apparently quite simple to make if you know what you're doing. Lots of people ask her to make dresses for them but she doesn't have time. Clothes that are comfortable and look good when you're dancing, particularly dresses for the ladies can't be a bad thing?.. They dont have to look like something from the Casino!. Good Luck to your Mrs!. Jayne.x.

I'm afraid I think it looks sad when you get middle aged people wearing clothes that they used to wear in the seventies. Why do people feel the need to wear a "uniform" at their age, is it because they have a yearning to still "belong" to something from their past? Are they going through an identity crisis or is it an attachment issue? It's understandable when you're kids - you want to keep up with the latest fashion but let's face it, most of us aren't kids. Don't mean to offend anyone, just my personal thoughts.

mischief Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Wouldn't it be a waste of sales space. I know nothing about dance wear but I'm sure you have more chance of selling 3 or 4 leotard Pineapple things than 3 or 4 pairs of bags and a circle skirt. I'm not getting into what people should wear as each to there own, but in a shop where space is money I thought you would be better of selling stuff there is a bigger market for. Maybe sell your bags and tshirts on ebay, we all know there is a market for northern soul on there.. Is there a passing trade for bags where you live? (Just a thought)
Reg Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Mike, I added a relevant post but it's gone? Asking about dancing shoes??

Reg Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Was going to ask if your wife stocks character dancing shoes? They are like tap shoes without the tap. Quite a few soul girlies wear them as they look quite cute, are comfortable and are easy to dance in. Flippin expensive at my local dance shop..Soul source discount??

Little-stevie Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Nothing at all...I think its a non starter if you go for the 70s Wigan bags look..A few are doing it already but most have grown out of the fashion now...Vinyl too is a very iffy game now with regards to a shop, soo much on-line...
Guest vinylvixen Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 (edited) Big white ladies pants with a clenched soul fist or 'I Love Soul' on the backside. So when ladies spin and their tailored circular skirts whoosh up, you can see what their preferences are It's wasted advertising space. You could put a 'Soul or Nothing' banner on the pants as most blokes have a good gander at soul drawers anyway Jo Edited July 19, 2007 by vinylvixen

Getting back on thread - IMVHO - I think if you get stock, sell it on the web and keyword it with Northern/ Ska/ Mod - that always works. Altho' the lapdancing club sounds a great idea. If you need a dedicated website building, visit www.toptenphotography.com - and tell him I sent you Jo Edited July 19, 2007 by vinylvixen

Guest rachel Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Another post deleted, would have thought if someone's already been warned about going off topic that it would be pretty obvious, but apparently not. Site guidelines say posts should be constructive and on-topic, nobody's saying you can't have a laugh outside Freebasing but come on....
Guest mooma Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 was once on wigan dance floor back in the 70s doing a spin! few people were clapping and cheering me on! So I thought! Mate comes up to me and whispers in my lughole "YOU AINT GOT NO KNICKERS ON GAL" ever wished the floor would open up and swallow ya? sue

Don't mean to offend anyone, just my personal thoughts. Trying to create and sell new designs for the NS market might be interesting.. (note that I say interesting not necessarily sucessful)... rather than the same old brandings on the same 7t's styled clothes.. come up with something to replace the bowling shirts too!.. Give the NS uniform an overhaul!.. Practical clothes designed to be comfortable and good to look at for the dancers, (not just for the sake of having our own fashion range). lol. Jayne.x.
