Simsy Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Has this been discussed before? Wondered why they had been playing this on the radio recently. Came across this piece; Frankie Valli Beggin' (Pilooski Edit) Video Beggin' will be released on July 2nd 2007. It's a track, a tune that, re-edited by Parisian DJ Pilooski on one of his ultra-limited Dirty Edits 12"s on his own Dark & Lovely label, became a euphoric fusion of emotional Northern soul stomper and end-of-the-night, hands-in-the-air rave moment. - full article - Frankie Valli /The Four Seasons - Beggin' (Pilooski re-edit)
Simsy Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 Will there be more? (From above link) "Italian American crooner has made some storming white soul records that over the last 30 years have been leapt on by the Northern soul and disco undergrounds. Klaxons are even covering his Wigan casino anthem The Night to be their next b-side. So it doesn't take a massive leap of faith to see one of his tracks being resurrected and hammered by DJs like Laurent Garnier and Erol Alkan".

sister dawn Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Yeah!? Wow .. Didn't think he'd done a terrible job of it all things considered.. Should have put one of those dodgy IL backbeats to it, to give it that just "more edge" feel to it

Guest mel brat Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 (edited) yeah this topic! I won't say dude.. I'm very confused.... Are we talkin' about "(Beggin) Baby Please Don't Go" by the Bronzettes, or "Beggin' For A Broken Heart" by Otis er, thingy... ...or "Beggers Can't Be Choosers" by Eula Cooper?? (Re. Frankie V: Back in the early 70s, my young sister was mad on Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons when the rest of her classmates were swooning over the Osmonds etc. - She even got to meet them, twice I think!) Edited July 11, 2007 by mel brat
Simsy Posted July 11, 2007 Author Posted July 11, 2007 Just to further confuse matters, are we talkin' about "(Beggin) Baby Please Don't Go" by the Bronzettes, or "Beggin' For A Broken Heart" by Otis er, thingy... No just this Pilooski chap and his 'euphoric fusion of emotional Northern soul stomper and end-of-the-night, hands-in-the-air rave moment' - subject of, type deal really..

Simsy Posted July 11, 2007 Author Posted July 11, 2007 https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=48251 Simsy, this is the last discussion on the track Ah right, cheers. Thought I'd posted in there for a minute, but it was Dukester (he of the great avatar)! I posted this yesterday morning in the 'strange places to hear' thread. Johnny Vaughn again on Capitol this morning talking of "Northern Soul, windows down". "Bit of talc on the floor".. Then played Frankie Valli - Beggin' as he did last week. Then after the track finishes he remarks that 'The Northern Soul Story' is one to listen to, mentions the Fascinations, Dobie Gray and Al Wilson. Upon which they all start singing the Snake! Also Rach had been listening to the Timebox version, which I had a little listen to again yesterday and is the version I think. As stated, remains to be seen whether they will do any more.
Guest rachel Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Also Rach had been listening to the Timebox version, which I had a little listen to again yesterday and is the version I think. I deny everything.. Actually I'd heard what I thought was the Timebox version out somewhere one night so decided to have another listen to it (wonder if they decided to play it on the back of this one being released?!).. not heard this new one yet!
Guest vinylvixen Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 (edited) Try this one instead - the video is wonderful but WEIRD! Edited July 11, 2007 by vinylvixen
Guest garv Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Try this one instead - the video is wonderful but WEIRD! I really dont like the FV version of Beggin but that video is fantastc.
Soulfinger Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I really dont like the FV version of Beggin but that video is fantastc. I agree. The video is brilliant though. We should give whoever is responsible the challenge of reworking some of Ian Levine's strange world ones.
Guest gordon russell Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 lets not forget folks ......this is a pop record .......has nothing to do with soul music but i'm sure some fool will play it somewhere
Simsy Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 lets not forget folks ......this is a pop record .......has nothing to do with soul music but i'm sure some fool will play it somewhere I agree mrdarcy. Would you say the same of 'The Night'? And has/where has 'Beggin' been played?
Simsy Posted July 18, 2007 Author Posted July 18, 2007 I see Frankie Valli is up to number thirty two in the charts. No mention or credit to Pilooski ...?
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 well that will be me a fool then when i plan to play it out on my first DJ only because it is Northern soul to me. and it was announced on local radio as nice Northern soul for a sunday afternoon and it was released before anyway by Frankie Valli this is a remix of it

Simsy Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 Check out the story behind 'Beggin' hitting the UK charts at https://movementbureau.blogs.com/chameleon/ "Even better, the 12" single went straight in at No. 1 in the Top 40 Dance Singles in the first week of release. It was a remarkable event, considering that the original recording is just over 40 years old". Just shows the longevity of good music!
Col Wolfe Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Pilooski's quite an interesting bloke - he's also remixed stuff by Dee Edwards, Edwin Starr, World Column, Human Beinz, People etc obviously a fan of the 'classics' Still amazed he didn't opt to re-work the Timebox version for a crisper sound and beefier drums - way less muddier than the OG and therefore more suitable for today's clubs
