Just had the heartbreaking news on the phone that one of my very old mod friends has died, Gillian Haigh from Leeds.

I know that there will be a few of you on here that will know her & may want to come to the funeral, pass on best wishes etc.

Gillian has a well known & loveable lass from the mod scene in the 80's, we were in the same mod club, the 24th hour.

Her husband phoned to say that she had died of thyroid cancer at the age of 39. She was only recently diagnosed & was told on Tuesday that there was nothing else they could do for her. She passed away on Thursday, surrounded by her family, listening & singing away to Paul Weller. She leaves behind a 6 year old son.

Please pass on this to anybody who knew her from then, I have adresses for a family if anybody wants to send a card. Will post funeral details when I know them.

Very sad news Kirsty. :boxing:

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Gillians family and friends, especially the little one.

I remember Gillians name, but for some reason I can't seem to picture her face.

R.I.P.

I'm pretty sure she is on the mod culture photos that Nick wain did. Pretty, blond, went out with Rob Messer for a while, great friends with Paul Molloy, will you make sure Paul knows for me. Thanks

Just been talking to Jo and guessed it was Gillian who dated Rob.

She was a lovely girl.

I will let Paul know, though it's probably on Modculture by now.

Does Nick Brady know?

Such terribly sad news.....

Yes, Nick Brady knows. He has been wanting to do a reunion do for the last couple of years, but it has never happened for one reason or another, now it looks like its going to happen under sad circumstances. When her husband rang Alison, Alison thought he was ringing her about Gillians suprise 40th that she had always wanted. Me & Gillian were pregnant at the same time, James is the same age as Lauren.

Just had a phone call from little Alison, who is trying to contact everyone who were good friends with her in the 80's. She's looking to get in touch with Ciro from Kettering & Sharon his wife from Hartlepool. I only saw them last week at Bridlington, but dont have any contact details. If anyone has them or knows Mick from Hartlepool, can they let them know. Thanks.

Will hopefully have funeral details Tuesday night.

Thanks very much Ken, you're a star. Also thanks to Cheryl & Pikey for helping us track down Ciro & Shaz.

Gillians husband has just rang Alison, the funeral is next Tuesday in Ilkley. Anyone wanting details please let me know.

He was very touched to know that there are messages on here & modculture & said that he would look at them when he was up to it.

Just thought I should pass my condolences on to the family / friends. I dated her for about 6 months way back (I always thought one day I'd see here again and catch up but alas I now never will).

RIP Gill

Hi Kirsty

I'm so very sorry to hear about Gillian.

I am an old friend of Gillian's too. From primary, middle and high school days and have been trying to get her family's address as I believe they've moved from the address I had for them. I'd like to send a card to her mum, dad and sister Joanne and also to Simon and James (although I never had the pleasure of meeting Simon or James) - I've lived in SydneyAustralia for the last 9 years.

Could you please email me their addresses to rawhitfield3@optusnet.com.au.

I'd really appreicate it.

Sorry again that Gill's gone. We were best friends for years.

Of course, I will be in touch, Andrea. We are hoping to have a charity memorial do for her soon, watch this space

I've just come back from the funeral & was going to post a piece. I'm still very emotional (& drunk!) as you can understand.

Where do I start. Firstly, I would like to say it was one of the nicest of send offs I've ever seen. The sun was shining for our beautifual Gill & the church was packed, just goes to show how popular she was. The coffin was carried in while Town Called Malice was played. Joanne (her sister) got up to say a few words about her, summed her up beautifully. Simon her hubby had been on the internet & picked out a few tributes to her & the vicar read them out, lovely touch.(Thanks Mace for putting it on modculture) Spoke to Simon afterwards & he was so,so touched by the things that people had written about her. Thats because she was a lovely lass who brightened up our lives & was a great friend, some of us may not of seen her for a few years, but she still meant the world to us. The service ended with her & Simons song "You're the best thing", beautiful tribute & beautiful song, not a dry eye in the house, & sums up Gill & Simons love for each other.

Her son James, is a mini Gill, he is the double of her, can see him being Simons salvation.

Saw so many dear friends today that I had not seen so long, I've laughed & cried until it hurt.

Gill, I miss you & I love you to bits. Rip darling. Makes you realise how precious life is & how dear people are to you.

Hi Kirsty,

Phew that picture brought back a few memories...seems like yesterday. I remember Gillian-in fact I've got a very similar picture to that one possibly at some all dayer in either Leeds or Preston circa 1986ish. So sorry to hear the news-so young...life isn't fair is it.

Life aint fair sometimes Reggie. Alison brought a load of piccies yesterday & we showed them to Simon & James, they made them smile. Cant believe it was 20 years ago, where does time go?. Seeing eveyone again was great though yesterday, the banter started straight away & we reverted back to calling each other by the nicknames we all had. Gill would have been smiling. Alison took a picture of us all, will have to post it once I get a copy, nobody has changed.

Were you referring to Micky Corr from Hartlepool? If so I may be able to help with contact details for him (if of course you had no joy).

If you happen to speak to Ciro & Shaz please give 'em my fondest.
