Mal.C. Second press from recent times is vinyl but as far as I know, none of the 1976 bootlegs were done on vinyl, maybe it's a Jamaican original!

It's a fantastic record, completely dominated by it's Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey arangement. Powerful Drum/Bass line, simple chorus, great hookline, decent vocal, all creating an atmospheric dancer. Some would say.....Err.... all the makings of a Northern Soul classic. Most of us local DJ's gave "I got the vibes" a lot of plays, prob because it was easy to get hold of!

Might have been the all dayers after the niters closed Rob, but I've got loads of tapes with playlists on them from Sams nighters 75/76 when Sam was a resident, and Nabay is not listed on any of them. JV will remember no doubt.

Mike i may be being picky but out of the 10 listed i only associate 2 of them not being mecca records that being the int gto's and ernie bush, the rest are to me mecca first so am suprised to see them as richards top ten. as you know if you went to the mecca JJA went down a storm mark

Joshie Jo Armstead also something of an anthem, alongside Oscar Perry "I Got What You Need", and a (reactivated) Bobby Hutton etc. Just to be awkward, I have to say that I quite like Nabay! (I'd read somewhere it was "poppy" before I actually heard it, but the vocal arrangement reminds me a bit of the Gospel Classics on Chess!) Edited July 1, 2007 by mel brat

Glad you mentioned that as I was beginning to believe I'd dreamed it, but I was offered a vinyl copy of Mel Britt passed off as an "original" for £12 in 1976 or early 1977 (I won't say by whom!) - so it looks as though vinyl bootlegs from that period do exist, as I'm pretty sure the originals are all styrene copies.
