Hi All,

As a member of Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team I thought this idea was worth a stab.

SMRT as all Rescue teams across the country are self funding with no government help and need to find a budget of around £20k pa to keep running and be able to provide help and support for people lost or in trouble out and about in Swaledale, without the team many people who are injured could have easily perished on the dales, not to mention the support we provide to the other emergency services in the cases of missing persons or large scale incidents.

Apart from, my involvement within the team I am just a regular Northern Soul fan, I don't claim to be an expert or indeed an old timer and I only have little knowledge of current djs and promoters but I hope to be able to find some help in the way of how maybe to set up a charity doo in aid of SMRT.

If anyone can help or has advise for me on this idea please can you mail me.

Thanks in advance

Hi Bill,

I am a keen hill walker, the Lakes, the Dales, Snowdonia, and do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks every year and the National 3 Peaks every other year. (I know you may not like the last 2!).

I really appreciate the unpaid work you lads do. My mate at work is in the Todmorden MRT.

A few years ago we saw a soul do advertised at Kettlewell Village hall. I couldn't go, but I believe it was OK.

How about a guided walk for novices during the day and a soul do at night somewhere in the dales? B&B is about £20pp, not a lot to pay for a full days walking and a top night.

I know a lot of people would love to go walking but are wary of the hills, getting lost etc.

I would be willing to do the guided walk, if you do the venue, and any dosh goes to the MRT. Might need to hold it a bit further south than Muker or Keld though?

Let me know.

Hi Bill,

I hope you've had a more than a fewpositive PM's on this mate as it sounds like a worthy cause.

There ain't no mountains in Kent, and I'm not up for any walking (dancin' is hard enough mate), but if you really are stuck give me a shout.

Can't organise much from down here but once my wheels are sorted I would be willing to offer my services, my vinyl, my decks/peaveys/lights etc in return for a pint and a bit of floorspace to kip on.

I'd be both suprised and disappointed if you needed to take me up on this, but the offer's on the table.

Good Luck.

Kevin.

Hi All,

Thanks so much for the positive respose and the great ideas, I am gaining such inspiration from you guy's I am so pleased.

I will be on exercise on Sunday with the MRT and I shall print off this thread to give to the charities secretary, no doubt there will be some red tape and grey areas that will need clarification, given the clearance from there I shall start to look at venues and I will keep you all informed of any further occurances. Thank you Bill.S

Hi Dan,

We are just back from a week in Scotland. Had a great time, apart from the dog picking up 5 deer ticks, which are really fun to remove, especially when you pull em out with tweezers, and the head stays in the dog!

Even if this doesn't come off, it may be a great idea for the future? See how many soulies we can get out in the Dales or the Lakes and have a soul do after, with B&B thrown in in a local hostelry or B&B?

Count me and Cathy B in, as well as Paul B and Jill. Paul has the decks etc, could be a goer!

Live on the edge of the Lakes so really appreciate how much time, etc the MRT's give.

Would love to see the soul comunity raise some money for them.

First thoughts, so havn't really thought through the logistics, but.......

B/H weekend sometime next year.

3 events based on the 3 peaks challenge Fri/Sat/Sun: England, Scotland, Wales.

"Three Events Challange" or something like that.

Just a thought

Hi All,

Just to let you know the idea in principle goes to the committee next wednesday and depending on their decision I will start making more detailed enquiries and sourcing the necsesaries for a small doo, any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I've never even tried to organise one before.

Someone told me that Aysgarth village hall isn't a bad venue I beleive it has a bar and a dancefloor so thats a start and there are some nice easy going scenic walk routes local to that too.
