Guest Glawsters Best Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 and why??? my best mate sadly died in 1998 Gaby Schazzai in Cardiff was from Gloucester we grew up together in Gloucester but after my long break from the scene during the 80's it was him who brought me back in 1996 so every time i go to a nighter or soul night my thoughts are with Leon
Citizen P Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Ricky Warburton from Salford. Why? Known him nearly all my life. both got into Soul at the youth Clubs. both went to the Pendulum together( He went to The Torch, my dad wouldn't let me play out all night) Blue Rooms, Carlton, Mecca, then onto Wigan, then marriage( not together ) lost touch for about 12 years, found out roughly where he lived, went for a wander to see if I could suss it out, there he was sat in his front garden, first words to me after all that time???? "Hiya Tone. Wanna Brew?" Also has a very nice collection Tony 1

Still miss him even after all these years, great taste in music. It was Gabby who so supportive when I used to play tracks like George Benson-World is a ghetto at Yate. Later in life he used to send me great Jump Jazz tapes in the post that always made me smile. Truely a life cut short
Pauldonnelly Posted June 15, 2007 Author Posted June 15, 2007 My Mrs...she hates the northern scene but allows me to indulge in something that like her is special. And not forgetting Terry Tibbs who took me to my very first all nighter at Bletsoe in 1972, without his paypacket of staying up stuff that night I've always wonderd if I would have ever discovered the wiered and wonderful world of the UK's Northern Soul Scene, still gets out and about with his wife Sally..top bloke. 1
Dave Thorley Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 (edited) Now days, there are a few that I would call special, each of them were there for me a few years back, when things got very black and it's fair to say without them I would not be hear now. Funny but when the chips were down it was the soul scene that pulled me through. Very personal but; Ali & John, Richard & Judith, Ady & Carol, Marc & Dawn, Gary Fields, Pete & Karen, Colin C, Leon & Gavin, love you lots. But there are many more of you on here that I can never say thank you enough to. So you can't complain about my djing any more, it's your fualt i'm still here Love you all But most of all Malayka, a new life Dave Edited June 16, 2007 by Dave Thorley 1

Paul McKay Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Keith Hammond and the lovely Liz for introducing me to my first Soul Night at the Wheatsheaf, Kings Road, London in the very early 70s. Terry Davis, the suitcase of records lugging DJ I met there and still see out and about John Clarke and Tony Ellis who taught me a bit about this record lark and set me on the neverending search for vinyl And after many years away Mark Houghton, Colin Brown, Keith & Maxine from my early forays back into the scene Rod Dearlove, Gary Dennis, Andy Davies for their saleslists Jo Wallace, PTP & Martin Thomson for TOS and their guests for the music I'd not heard before Dave Greenhill for a stunning Stafford tape Mac & Rob Chadwick for their drinking company and all the people I've subsequently met on this fabulous scene of ours.

Guest Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Lowering the tone a bit. My best mate changes all the time as it is the poor sod I am boring to death at whatever nighter I am at.
Guest Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 In no particular order...... Jemco, for getting me into Northern soul and for helping me out in a way I'll never forget at a hideous time of my life. Delasoul...... We have so much in common, The music, dogs, working in education, supporting crap 3rd division sides , similar sense of humour. Tim Briggs..... Met Tim at the 100 club and have been good mates ever since, even though we live 70 miles apart. Ahhhh, bless ya sir! Well mine (again in no particular order type way) would be 'mostly' Minx.....been there for me in many a time of (great) girlie need! Dawn n Crumb (Coxone) from Stoke (have known them 2 20 plus years n still love em both to pieces, wish we lived a bit closer these days!) Maaaaaaark, for the same reasons he gave above PLUS the fact that he's been there for me whenever/whatever over the last 3 years or so (& is so not judgemental i luv im to bits!) Rugby Soul club....she always makes me smile (think its the way she dances! ) & a few others like Shazsoul,Glyn Whitbread,Karen Parker, Lorrie, Winnie, Annie, Tony Wozzer Warot etc; but this is begining to sound like a speech, so will leave it here me thinks!
