Guest DELORENZO Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Right Lads & Lasses Pic & Bill - The Soul Of A Man / Don't Leave Me - Soul Record 1 - French - unfortunately no Pic sleeve (But i think i may know where one is) any ideas on value, i see there SR 7 is up for £200 on Mr Manship's thanks Jed
Sebastian Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 SR 1 is worth about £10. SR 7 is expensive (even though £200 is optimistic) because it has got "Talk About Love" on it, which is EXTREMELY rare on its original US Charay release (releases really, as it was issued three times, but is still almost impossible to track down).
Guest DELORENZO Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 thanks for that Sebastien I am selling the SR 7 now, with pic sleeve on Ebay
KevH Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 thanks for that Sebastien I am selling the SR 7 now, with pic sleeve on Ebay on Spanish BELTER records as well, seen it at 150/100 in boxes( for Talk about love),sold mine to a pal for 50 pic sleeve,, "not too long ago"...
ShorterSoul Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 So what's the consensus on the value of the Charay release of 'Talk about love'. I know it's not valued very highly in Tim Browns guide unlike their other Charay outing 'What does it take'. Can anyone give me realistic current value for this Thanks
Sebastian Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 (edited) So what's the consensus on the value of the Charay release of 'Talk about love'. I know it's not valued very highly in Tim Browns guide unlike their other Charay outing 'What does it take'. Can anyone give me realistic current value for this Thanks It's a bit strange to see the rather common euro releases of this tune selling for £100-£200 and then both of the mega rare Pic & Bill issues of "Talk About Love" on Charay (issued with two different flipside) sell for only £200-£300. Based on quality and rarity it should be £750 at least. I don't know how much it is in the Tim Brown and Manship guides, can anyone please check? The first release of "Talk About Love" (the exact same recording, but about 20 catalogue numbers prior to the Pic & Bill issues) is credited to Fiery Spartans (Vocal by: PIC & BILL) and I've only ever seen one copy of that one and it's the one I've got. Not interested in selling it, but would ask for a LOT of money if I ever did. If anyone has got their "What Does It Take" 45 on Charay for sale, please PM me. Edited June 12, 2007 by Sebastian
Jaco Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Sebastian, JM's 4th guide has "Talk about love" with the flip of "For the good times" listed at £150. No mention of the issue with "A man without a woman" as the flip.
ShorterSoul Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Thanks Sebastian, I had this on an tape from John Manship years ago credited to the Fiery Spartons. Always assumed this was the cover up name! Picked up a copy of the Pic and Bill release on Charay for a few dollars of ebay a couple of years ago. I understand that some of the european releases of this aren't such a good recording as the US Charay issues. Definately in agreement with you with the quality and rarity of the P&B Charay release, I've only seen this for sale once or twice and it's always been expensive... Never seen the FS Charay issue, must be mega rare!!

Have you got a sound bite of it to post up?,,KEV.
Garethx Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 The Fiery Spartans and Pic & Bill are identical recordings.

Have you got a sound bite of it to post up?,,KEV. The Fiery Spartans probably were Pic & Bill's backing band and that's why on the right on the Fiery Spartans label you can read "Vocal By: PIC & BILL". There is no need to put up a soundclip because the Fiery Spartans release is identical in every way to the Pic & Bill release(s). The Fiery Spartans 45 and the Pic & Bill 45s have been pressed using the same stamper and has got identical matrix markings. Edited June 12, 2007 by Sebastian

Both sides actually, nice rocking instrumental on the b-side. I also have it on Revue, but original issue was on Charay. I used to collect the Charay label but gave it up as it was too damn confusing. It's "bad" enough to only collect Pic & Bill 45s... Edited June 13, 2007 by Sebastian

Strange indeed.

Strange indeed. Thanks for the additions! It's the same version of "Patsy" which is included on all 45s, it's an instrumental and Major Bill Smith seems to have included it on 45s when he didn't want to "waste" studio time/money for a second tune. The track entitled "Cool" which has shown up on loads of Major Bill Smith-connected 45s is the same recording as "Patsy" and it wouldn't surprise me if "Alpine Winter" also is the exact same... Do you know of 10 releases of Charay 60!? Edited June 13, 2007 by Sebastian

Do you know of 10 releases of Charay 60!? Should have guessed "Patsy" was an instrumental, and as you say probably the same with "Alpine Winter". I miscounted Charay 60, there are 9 issues : What would I do/What does it take (to keep a girl like you satisfied) Patsy/What would I do Patsy/The soul of a man Something's wrong with my baby/What would I do How many times/Funny how time slips away What would I do/Funny how time slips away How many times/I love you baby How many times/Patsy Together it's the end of time/Patsy Nightmare for "completists"

I know it's not valued very highly in Tim Browns guide unlike their other Charay outing 'What does it take'. Can anyone give me realistic current value for this Thanks paid about a ton for mine, worth every penny IMHO, you see the French release all the time, allot fewer Charay 45's come up.. they did the flip of the Moovers Brent 45 'I Love You, Baby' (60) on above listing... in fact dont know which came first but I love that song on both versions... Come Back Baby on the Belter Lp is the other stand out Northern wise i suppose, didn't make ANY crap records this lot! Mal Edited March 18, 2014 by Mal C
Mal C Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Ohh forgot, 'All I want is You' also came out on Le Cam, dont know which is first, Le Cam? anyhow one of the best tracks isnt it... Mal
