Guest Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 Ive been visiting this site and reading the posts anonomously for a few months now and thought the time has come to jump in at the deep end and place a post myself. Having lived in darkest Essex for the past 40yrs (previously in Kilburn, NW London) Ive been brought up on the southern clubs of the 70's to the current day and mostly the Jazz Funk & Soul sound. Apart from the odd visit to a 100 club all nighter or a Northern Soul Club (yes I was lucky enough to get to the Casino) whilst up Norf on my travels supporting my beloved Chelsea that's where my roots lie. Now I don't profess to be an expert or anything like it about soul music let alone Northern or Modern Soul but I do know what I like when I hear it. My love of soul music is a passion that should be explored without boundaries no matter where it takes me so when I hear people say that's crap because it is'nt soul what do they mean exactly? Surely we all love the music because of how it makes us feel and where it takes us when we're on the dancefloor not because someone tells us it's a good tune or it's recorded on the right label. Sure, there will be always be healthy discussions over what is is'nt soul and what are the best tunes ever but I think we alll agree there is nothing more important than the music itself.
