Not sure if this has been done before but if it hasn't.....

There's been plenty of Wigan/Torch/ compilations - Think Goldmine did a Stafford Story. Classic 45s that defined an era/venue or turning point in the UK Soul Scenes exisitence.

Got me thinking what hadn't been done or should be done? You could right back to the Twisted Wheel /Flamingo/6T's clubs right up to present day. I know on some sales would be minimal but here's a couple to start off with.

Canal Tavern Thorne . - Surely a contender?

100 Club - Same as above. (Unless I'm mistaken surely Ady could be allowed to blow his trumpet on this one?)

Any ideas on more? Potential Track Listing? Do some need re-looking at/ re-evaluating?

Regards

Rich

Good one Chalky - Been a young 'un it's a venue I never went to yet you see that mentioned more than enough to warrant some respectful overview. Potential tracks?

Rich

I would like to see a twisted wheel compilation, to show the mid 40's youngsters  where it all started

Bazza

Could The Dome (CSC) be mentioned as a contender? Not strictly an all-nighter and probably not responsible for breaking as many tunes as the above mentioned legends but it did have a positive impact on the scene in London at that time.

Kent released a truly superb CD in 2005 which celebrated the early 6T's and 100 Club events, check it out:

It's called "6Ts: In The Beginning" and I hope there will be further volumes. thumbsup.gif

Agreed : a very creditable compilation .....

I asked Ady about further volumes of 6Ts material , prior to the first CD being released ; he stated that he did not know when , or if that would happen , due to the comittment he had on / with other Kent releases .....

At the Cleethorpes Winter Gardens event in February , the promoter Ian Paling and I talked about a CD containing the real Cleethorpes sounds ; he informed me that there will be a definitive Cleethorpes CD released sometime in 2007 .....

As a new guy and having not been to the great legendary venues of old I think it would be good to see some Dj compilations coming out, I see ads for and hear people raving about the likes of Ginger, Butch, Soul Sam etc but am I wrong in thinking they work as guests to venues as opposed to regular dj's these days, if for instance I had a compilation from one of these top line dj's that would maybe encourage me and many others the go and see for real, also a nice payday for the hard work put in by these guys. thumbsup.gif

There's already two Twisted Wheel compilation cd's from Goldmine (might even be 3). They also did a good Cleethorpes one.

A Mecca one too.

2 Mecca ones thumbsup.gif

Infact, I'd be careful when buying said CD's from Goldmine. I bought Spirit Of The Mecca for my Old Man, and when it turned up is was a crappy laser copy disc and colour laser copy of the sleeve with no notes. I had the original one when it came out and it had a full booklet. Seems they've run out and won't pay for a new run, just burn them off  Don't mind charging full whack though

Ginger Taylor brought one out a couple of years ago.

Re: the idea of compilations around DJs. It doesn't seem that likely that a current DJ would want the best of their current plays compiled on one CD -- although it'd be nice if they would -- but the idea of a compilation of past and present DJ's best plays down the years would be equally good (to me at least). I'd opt for Rushbrooke, Hennigan and Brady to kick off with. thumbsup.gif Butch's inclusion would go without saying!

There again, I want a Deep Soul Inferno volume 2, and ideas like mine sell squat product.

Any ideas where I could get hold of a Ginger Taylor cd or are they going to be the vinyl of the future i.e. rare and too pricey for humble me.

Nope it doesn't, and who can blame them when there's people who'd buy it and be straight on to Vinyl Carvers...

I think there are two Ginger's CDs around: GT Northern Soul Banquet, and The Brighouse Ritz Story. Sorry but I can't remember the label, even I'm pretty sure they're on Goldmine...

Then I've got even an unofficial CD compliled by Ginger with Terry Davies about tunes played at The Longfield Suite in Prestwich...

Hope this helps Bill

OK so we've had:

Clifton

Yate

Canal Tavern

100 Club ( 80s/90s Club Biggies?)

Dome - CSC

Any more? Tracklistings? Ideas?

Not really aiming this thread about particular Dj's CDs........

Rich

Has Manchester Ritz its own CD...?

Used to love the Dome the first three years or so. Granted the Dome did break some new sounds but to my memory not that many, certainly not prolific. Most had been played over the years. Maybe they were to a newer audience?

If it wasnt for "wigan" bazza you 51 plus dinasaurs  wouldnt have any soul club to go to today fact!.

Not so much a venue as several during the post Stafford era......The original Soultown nighters, Tony's Empress Ballroom (Blackburn and Mexboro) both run by Guy, Bradford Queens Hall, Winding Wheel in Chesterfield, Mucky Duck (Black Swan) Mansfield, early Keele. Lots of venues really mid 80's to early 90's that the top DJ's frequented before the onset of the returnees.

Dome is a good call. What about The Oddfellows Leicester? Always overshadowed by The Top of the World, but a top niter in my opinion. Or Morcambe Pier?

Edited by Matt Male

Thought about this one a few times.

I asked a while ago about a Morecambe Pier(or just Morecambe one),cant understand why one hasn't been done over the years.

Probably go with a Queens Hall Bradford one as well :wicked: .
