Myself and of course many others will pay more than Daddy AKA James Ellerbeck, as he is only asking for this record to cross forum trade.

Sell to this guy if you want to see it sold on another forum for profit.

I'm amazed you got your nose out of Butch's box/arse long enough to stick it in here, fair play to you

yes, entertaining perhaps and raises an interesting point...

Is it ok to post on other people's wants lists that you want a record also and possibly more than the person who posted it? Which is the main reason I posted of course, because I want the record, rather than any other reason. The fact that Ellerbeck and I have have had a long running battle on forums for years is irrelevent really.

Bad Form.

Why not start your own wants post instead?

Same could be said for alot of posts?

Isn't that like saying once someone has bid on a record no one else should, they should find their own record to bid on instead?

For my humble part, I think JTrouble is right to chip in here, if he genuinely thinks the plan is to sell on at a profit. It seems that soliciting and coaxing someone out of their record at less than market value (which is what would be needed) is against the spirit of this forum. I know that's what dealers do when buying singles and collections, but in those cases the relationship and motive is clear.

Partly makes up for the self-regarding tosh JTrouble wrote about "have a go Charley" DJs in the NE Soul Forum mag; again IMHO.

No, you're comparing chalk and cheese - this isn't an auction. Look, if you want a record just ask for it on your own.

Of course its bad form, stop pretending to be a rabbit caught in the headlights. If you had a record to sell and someone else put it in a sales list first, would tell punters not to buy it from him but from you instead?

I dunno, but seems ok in my eyes to even post on a sales list that you have a record cheaper than someone selling it. Seems to be quite common practice around these parts to post up about having records on Manship's auction that people will sell cheaper than the current price of Manship's auction. So ok to undercut Manship and not others? Mmmme, a bit of hypocracy there.

I guess it's about manners or a lack of them. I don't care about upsetting James Ellerbeck too much, so I'm not bothered about sticking my nose into his attempt to get a record cheap that most "northern soul" people would concider weak disco jazz funk or somthing along those lines.

I've always thought a sales site like Gemm would be great if you could post your offers on records, so that anytime a seller has one, they can go on the site and see what offers are sat there to be hit.

Michael, I asked for a record, that's all. It's between me and the seller what the price is. For this one I'd have thought £400+. Now maybe Trouble will pay £40000, that's his business, and the price I'd pay is my business. As to what I would do with the record I bought, again my business. What concern is it of anyone's, or does the forum collectively own each others records!

I agree, it's irrelevent what you do with it really. But I think any potential seller would like to know I would pay more for the record than you would

Then perhaps you would be so kind as to say so in your own wants post without the BS about me and my motives.

No need to start two threads about the same subject is there?

You'd pay £400, I'd pay alot more. You'd best hope that someone has two copies, although saying that I know alot of folk who would pay more than £400 (as do you) so maybe you'll need someone with more than a few copies!

if you boys start slagging each other off on this forum then then funk forum will cease to exist. After all thats about all its used for wicked.gif

although I do prefer the anything goes appraoch on the funk forum a lot more. You have to be a bit more reserved over here.

Strange thread... what's the problem with asking for a wanted 45 in the wants section of a 45 forum???

And if the guy would want to sell it with profit that's his decision isn't it. I think you'd find it rather common in the record world that records get re-sold, some with profit, some without.

I don't think there's much wrong with posting on someone else's wants post how much you'd pay for the record? It is a wants section after all. Of course there are issue about manners, rudeness, the initial posters motivation, my motivation, the type of record in question etc and perhaps people do not understand how this is a different situation to most normal posts in the wants section. rolleyes.gif

The important thing here is that we are not talking about £200 established oldies where there are 100s and 100s of copies stuck in collections. Were talking a super rare obscure funk/disco tune here that doesn't have an established market price, it's not in any price guide, it's not been on ebay etc so it's perfectly fair game IMO to post up saying I want it and I'll pay more than him, as would many others.

Here's how it is.

It's a discofunk record that most people on this site will not be that bothered about, but some people in the world are. There is a chance that someone has it stuck in a collection somewhere tucked away and they may pull it out and google search it at some point in the future and this thread gets pulled up. If I had not posted on here Ellerbeck would more than likey have got the record very very cheap IF a copy turnedd up. I am prepared to pay more than him so the winner is the seller, if one ever turns up, because they will get the right price for it instead of Ellerbecks £400 offer (if he even offered that much for it), I'll be a winner because I'm more likely to have the record having posted on this thread than having not posted, and the only person who will lose out is Ellerbeck. And my justification for doing this to him is that he never goes out to support any events and he contributes nothing to the scene or this site.

Sorry, it's tough, I want the record, I'll pay more than him and I'll give an honest offer for it because I wouldn't want to upset people who I see out and about in the clubs every weekend by ripping them off offering then a pathetic amount of money for a record that's massively in demand and super rare. Ellerbeck wouldn't care about ripping someone off because he doesn't care about the scene, in fact he mocks it at every chance he gets.

That last part is a little irrelevent though, the important thing to me is that I want the record, I'll pay more than him, as would alot of people of course and if you spend a moment thinking about the person who started this thread I think you'll understand why my quite plainly rude behavior here is justified? Have a look at what he contributes to this forum to get an idea about what he's doing here. All his posts are in the wants section, trying to get records cheap out of people or they are posts trying to rub me up the wrong way. Nothing wrong with either of these two things as such, and none of us are saints, but just don't expect me to give him respect when all he does is take from this site, the collectors and the dedicated soulies while he contributes nothing to the scene.

He's like a leech stuck on this site sucking what he can out of it and giving nothing back so I think it's justifiable action to out bid him on his own wants post for a record that doesn't yet exist.
