Guest
is the Mary Jane recording of I'm gonna love you the same as the Jameco recording, or is it the Carrie and Jameco the same? thanks adam Edward Hamilton - I'm gonna love you 4 different versions. CARRIE 6502 orange label time 2:25 SKRM-1078-1 mix CARRIE 009 green label time 2:35 c#009b mix JAMECO 2088 time 2:35 SKRM-1078-1B mix credits backing by The Fifes all the above are different but only subtle differences. Would suggest all taken at the same session. MARY JANE 6707 time 2:30 credits the backing by The Arabians and is totally different: different vocals, instruments etc. Not recorded at the same session would suggest different musicians and vocal backing. Hope that helps.. John Link to comment Social source share

Guest
Often heard people say the Mary Jane copies had a better punchier/cleaner sound to the other issues...not really sure myself as it's ages since I compared 'em, what I do like though is the extended fade on the Carrie(green) issue...just love the words Edward sings, a shame they're lost on the Mary Jane issue as they add so much to the record for me. PS: I've often wondered about the name Mary Jane.....is it a reference to marijuana, or after Lou Beatty's wife/daughter? Guest
the Orange Carrie are crisper and punchier Then it must be very punchy since the Mary Jane 45 is very loud and powerful. Link to comment Social source share
Guest
the Orange Carrie are crisper and punchier Ted are you sure?? just played the orange one..drum intro is weaker than the Mary Jane take.. the backing group are stronger on the Mary Jane..although the Carrie backing has a real raw emotional appeal, which I like. and I think Edward two/three year older vocal maybe stronger on the Mary Jane take.. only my opinion.. but I prefer the later Mary Jane reworking, especially the wonderful instrumental break and Eddie going off on one, with a lengthened and tortured "Yes I Will !!" The Orange label instrumental break is not as spectualar in comparison..but orange copy is infinately rarer though, and has the good flipside of course. Lets face it it's a damn good 45, which ever take you listen to. Link to comment Social source share
