Guest Jamie Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 (edited) Can't believe Lenny Williams isn't there??? I'll insert it at 10 instead of CHA. One of the best intros ever. And love the part "Short ones, tall ones, slim ones, fat ones, heavenly lovelies, simply divine ones" Or at least they're the words I used to sing Jamie Edited January 28, 2005 by Jamie
Guest Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I must have put in "Dreamin A Dream" twice as it so brilliant. OK make #10 - DO YA WANNA GET FUNKY WITH ME - PETER BROWN 2,4,5,6,7,16 - not Northern Ritz records in my book....to me the Ritz Northern records are the likes of Larry Clinton, Jimmy Burns, Mel Britt, Eula Cooper, Herb Ward..

Guest Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Great list Neil - only one I don't like is Bo and Ruth which never 'got' me somehow. Maybe I need to hear it again !
Epic Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Bo & Ruth is awesome - full length album version with that wonderful piano & sax break - would love a 12" of this but I don't think it exists. As regards the Ritz revival count all us ex Mecca Fylde Coasters in - where do we buy tickets? I remember the LP version of "You" by Samuel Jonathon Johnson (Columbia) being a brilliant tune at the Ritz - yet the 12inch mix was dreadful!!. DANCE YOUR ASS OFF (The Frisco Disco)

Guest martyn Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 2,4,5,6,7,16 all went 'Northern' . Is 10 a remix of 4 ? link As did 9 & 19,though don't recall any of the others getting mainstream plays.................All this was at the height of the Wigan v Mecca row, which was pretty inconvenient for those of us that liked a bit of both& as it eventually left a straight choice between 60s & 70s
Epic Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 Spot on Martyn - I'm with you on this one - loved dancing to Tavares, DC Larue & Idris Muhammad etc. That said, would also stay on the floor to Rotations, Jimmy Raye & Paul Sindab etc. If only people would stop categorizing the music we all love. Soul music is great in 2005. Equally it was great in 1965 & the 4 decades that seperate the two years. We are privileged people - let's appreciate everything we have heard & look forward to hearing tunes not even made yet.,
Guest Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 Gotta agree with Epic here. Although i think its ok to catagorise (it gives an idea in advance when talking about records) but not just to dismiss because its 'not what i like" as some people like to do !
Ric-tic Posted January 29, 2005 Author Posted January 29, 2005 my best memory of the ritz was laughing and joking with the crown heights affair, they just came up and started talking, they were just 'hangin, out at the ritz' but the tavares actin like superstars i was in the foyer talking as they were leaving they all ran through and out of the door the last one turned to look back,i think he was expecting to see 800 screaming girls and there were none you should have seen the puzzled look on his face that one was still a great day and i have the ritz poster for that one firmly nailed to my wall
Godzilla Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 (edited) Another one of those Ritz 12"ers just sprang to mind: Cleveland Eton - Bama Boogie Woogie The UK 12 was on Gull and (I think) Ovation in US. The tune was a bit like a mixture of Peoples Choice's Do It Any Way You Wanna and Brass Costruction's Movin' from what I remember. I think Cleveland played bass on Ramsay Lewis's Wade In The Water as well. Godz Not gonna get told off again like when I mentioned reggae am I? Edited January 29, 2005 by Godzilla

Guest martyn Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 New York City - Miroslav Vitous I own a 12", WB K17448T link Dave,is the 12" a UK or US release,or a UK or US demo?
Guest enchantedrythm Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 Searling used to play an extended version of Eddie Holman pre release but I'm sure it was off a 10" acetate..I never saw a 12". Flaming Emeralds was 7" only. I remember hearing the Idris Muhammad record but it wasn't at Wigan. link searlings 10" was actualy where im not wanted. a track via j anderson and I wouldnt have thought counted here as is far too early to be commercial 12" single
Guest Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 (edited) Dave,is the 12" a UK or US release,or a UK or US demo? link Re: Miroslav Vitous - New York City: The 12" doesn't look like a demo & says Manufactured in UK on the label. The 'Magical Shepherd' album is available on CD, just ordered one from Amazon. Edited February 6, 2005 by dave_mcr
Guest Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 Re: Miroslav Vitous - New York City: The 12" doesn't look like a demo & says Manufactured in UK on the label. I think it only got a UK issue- mentioed it earlier.
