I love the image of you dancing on the bus to your i-pod tho !! Brilliant.

I wish the same could have been said of the ticket inspector.

I totally agree with the other stuff you said. The joy of northern soul is when you don't know what the devil your arms and legs are doing, because you're so caught up in the excitement of the record. Memories of crumbling on the dancefloor at Burntwood the first time I heard Butch play the Mello Souls.

PS Stupid anecdote re Edward Hamilton

In the Casino days, on Monday nights we got quite chatty with Richard S.

One night about 1975ish he gave me mate a pile of "new" records to borrow and see what we thought.

Amongst them for sure was Edward Hamilton and Mel Britt!!!! (obviously on original labels)

We all taped them on our trusty portables, said they were okay but might not go at the Casino, and returned em a week later unmarked...

The thing is, Edward Hamilton was massive all over in mid-1974, and I believe it may have been first played as early as 1973!

Latest in a line of utterly contrived threads, each serving as one displacement activity more wretched than the last.

Which other threads are you referring to ?

>>>

Almost all of the ones I've started when I should have been working.

Some cracking suggestions here. It'd be a heck of an allnighter if they were all played one after the other. Latest nomination: Rufus Lumley "Stronger than me" (RCA LP). One of the northern/pop tunes I love, but what to do during those strummy bass bits? Air guitar?

What about Lou Pride I'm Coming Down In The Morning (copyright Mr M's circa 1975?)??

No. Copyright Lou Pride and Suemi records, 1970(!) - and credit to ex-Catacombs DJ Blue Max, whom I heard play Lou Pride at the Phonograph in Walsall, many months before Wigan got hold of it.

P.S. If there's anyone out there who can dance right the way through the 12" mix of Brainstorm, then either you're a damned sight fitter than me (which ain't saying much!) - or you're probably well under 25!

Don't know the Lela Martin side, but you're damned right about Cindy Scott! Another old Cats side that I cherish, but it always WAS a bit rhythmically awkward, dancewise! More a case of beaten UP by the rhythm!

Lela Martin was a Dome spin for Flynny etc. a few years back - 200 MPH, loads of vibes, described as Mirwood-like. It came out on that V2 compilation CD a while back.

Like you Mel B, Cindy Scott will forever be associated with hot, sweaty summer nights at the Cats! thumbsup.gif

Hippo.

Bloody hell! Never knew that, but I was a latecomer to NS scene coz i'm only young.

By the way, are you related to Mr Britt by any chance? rolleyes.gif

Some old soak from Whitburn (the Scottish Whitburn) once told me -- then a naive 15 year old -- that HE invented that gag. What a lying rotter he hasturned out to be! :D I don't think he claimed ownership of "My baby sells LSD", but I can't be sure anymore.

Nearly brought my existence to a premature close trying to keep pace with Little Joe Cook "I'm Falling In Love With You Baby" at the Cleethorpes before last...

Other than that, permanently high on my "mission impossible" list these days are Frankie Beverly - She Kissed Me (and even more so, She Tried To Kiss Me, which was fairly infeasible even when i was half as old as I am now) and Patti Austin - Take Away The Pain Stain...

Nothing faster than "Oh Linda" for me these days. I'd say :D

Yes, very hot and very sweaty indeed. I recall my membership card disintegrating into a pink papier mache ball after I was foolish enough to leave it in my top pocket one time - had to beg another one, which was immediately encased in plastic when I got home!

(I blame Cindy Scott!) :wicked:
