Guest Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 I have this morning , whilst doing computer related paperwork , in order to relieve the boredom , been listening to various CDs , and one of them included Ron Holden's " I'll Forgive And Forget " ...... As we all know , CDs improve the clarity of old recordings , and the clarity given to " I'll Forgive And Forget " , has now posed a nagging question in my mind ..... I have not heard " IFAF " since the old King died ; it is still and good record ( albeit of its' time now ) , but to the clarity given to it by the CD , surprised me , as I could not believe the similarities in the toning in Ron Holden's voice to that of Randy Newman ..... I have played the track nearly a dozen times this morning ( much to the annoyance of my good lady wife ) , and the likeness between the voices of RH and RN , for me , is still there , convincing me that they are / were one and the same ..... Ron Holden was / is Randy Newman ? ........ Surely not . Malc Burton
Jaco Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Ron Holden "Born 7August 1939, Seattle, Washington, USA, d. 22 January 1997. Holden's career had a unique beginning: he had been arrested for driving with alcohol and marijuana in his possession and was in the police station when a police officer heard him singing. The officer, Larry Nelson, told Holden that he was planning on quitting the police department for a career in music and gave Holden his phone number. The teenager called Nelson upon his release from jail and Nelson recorded Holden singing his own composition "Love You So". The ballad was issued on Nelson's Nite Owl label and then sold to the larger Donna label, reaching the US Top 10 in the summer of 1960. An album was released on Donna but further singles on that and other labels did not recapture the flavour of the hit and Holden retired from the music business." Is this the guy?

Guest Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 (edited) As I stated in my original post , I could not believe the similarities in the toning in Ron Holden's voice to that of Randy Newman , and that the likeness between the two was / is , to my hearing , still strangely uncanny .... Apologies if it appeared that I was insinuating / trying to convince people that the two gentlemen were one and the same ..... If anyone has a CD with " IFAF " on , and are familiar with the early works ( at the start of his recording career ) of Randy Newman , get the CD out , play " IFAF " , and you will see / hear what I mean ..... Guest Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 (edited) Seperated at birth Malc Randy Newman Ron Holden Ok , I admit defeat .......But RH on " IFAF " still sounds to me very much like RN at the beginning of his recording career ...... I have got an idea ......For the next series of " Stars In Their Eyes " , we can get RH to do his best RN impression , and sing " I Think It's Gonna Rain Today " , and get RN to give it all singing " I'll Forgive And Forget " ...... Now that would make essential viewing ...... See you tomorrow good people ..... Malc Burton Coming soon ...... Soul Odyssey : no politics , just damn fine music . Edited April 29, 2007 by Malc Burton
