Guest Hunnymon Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 Complete with a few errors/misprints of course. A 1 to 40 listing is not present this time - which means either another error or all the tracks on the the list are equally essential. First track on the list is of course Frank Wilson. Anybody heard Doddie Grays version of Love,Love,Love? Seriously though Blues and Soul is now just 6 issues away from the 1,000 edition - quite an achivement!
Guest mel brat Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 (edited) Seriously though Blues and Soul is now just 6 issues away from the 1,000 edition - quite an achivement! Yeah, except it ceased to be a magazine about SOUL music about 25 years ago, as far as I'm concerned.... question: Did they really spell it DODDIE Gray, or is that your spelling? Was it on one of "diddy Dave Hamilton's" labels? Edited May 1, 2007 by mel brat
Mike Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 whats the rare/northern content like nowadays worth a look?

Guest Hunnymon Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 whats the rare/northern content like nowadays worth a look? The magazine is much smaller these days and usually has 4 pages of Soul/Northern in it along with other occasional features (like the one I've mentioned). Worth a look? With Natashia Bedingfield on the cover of the latest edition; it's gotta be in my book
Rob Wigley Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Steve Hobb's still does a great column in there, with revue's and gig guide. Paddy Grady is "The voice of northern Soul". The Mag has recently been sold to a new publisher, who , rumour has it ,is going to give issues away free ! not sure how this will work but watch out !

Trouble is it's not so visible these days, I haven't seen it on sale in WH Smith - or anywhere else for that matter - in years, the website wasn't updated for months, I thought it had gone under!

Rob Hi Rob I only write for them as a freelance, I did ask Bob the editor and he said it was not true, but if you know the owner, then that may be more accurate than what I was told! Hopefully it will not make to much difference to me!! Cheers Paddy
Guest Hunnymon Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Steve Hobb's still does a great column in there, with revue's and gig guide. Paddy Grady is "The voice of northern Soul". The Mag has recently been sold to a new publisher, who , rumour has it ,is going to give issues away free ! not sure how this will work but watch out ! On the subscription page the mag states that it is going regional and in due course will be a free music magazine. It says the intention is to sectionalize the UK into 30 different regions and produce a magazine for each region complete with local interest items with 5,000 free copies being made available! It then says that the only way to guarentee a copy of B&S is to take out an annual reduced price subscription of £40! Why would anyone take out a £40 subscription to a magazine that states it will shortly become a free magazine? Confused? Because I am! P.S. I order my copy from a local newsagent.
