The group's actually called Soul Sounds Unlimited, surely.

It was released on the June label (# 21228) in 1968...

thanks tony! ive been trading ballads with these really young latino kids in LA lately. some of these kids are heavy collectors, i had no idea. im real interested in learning more about soul in the latino communities during the 60s and 70s. doesnt seem to be talked about much.

'Low Rider Classics' are invariably cool, the east L.A. kids have consummate taste and have done so right back as far as the doo-wop era. Any group of music lovers who regard Sly, Slick and Wicked and Brenton Wood as musical heroes will always be OK with me...

Great record cheers for the post.

There is a book called "The Old Barrio Guide to Low Rider Music - 1950 -1970" by Rubin Molina. Sounds like a great mastermind subject. It's got some background to the scene and an A to Z of the low rider artists many of which crossover with the UK Northern/rare soul scene. Also plenty of label pics. Can't vouch as to how accurate it is but I certainly enjoyed it. Good read.

There is was also a series of cds called something like "songs for the slow and the low" which must mean low riders and not people who are stupid and depressed.!! Never got any but spent a weekend in Fleetwood listening to them and not venturing to far from the caravan as a result. Really obscure, to me anyway, deep soul/ballards Great stuff.

Regards Alan

just found a website for the publisher of the above mentioned book. they also produce cd compilations and have a great gallery of posters from dances back in the 60s. worth a look if you are interested. https://www.mictlan.com/

also, just found the website of a member of Mark & The Escorts who has written several articles (included on the website) of various East LA recording artists, including The Blendells, The Midniters, Trini Lopez and a ton more. https://markguerrero.net/articles.php

and check out the artist photos, flyers and bandcards too:

tons of info related to the 60s East LA scene here!
