i'm helping a friend of mine to look for a pair of direct drive decks & mixer for her 12 year old son

he's saved up £150

she knows she won't get 1210s,etc (in good condition) for this money

can anyone offer me some advice on cheaper alternatives and where to look?

cheers

You'll not get Direct Drives for £150....try close to that each plus cost of mixer.

Numark do a DJ set of Belt Driven decks and mixer/cross fader for about £150.

oops, neglected to say he wants secondhand gear in reasonable condition

thanks anyway

I wouldn't rec second hand unless you know the person selling.

Bit like a boy racers car, you never know the amount of abuse that they have had.

Even if they look ok I'd still have to have them serviced, which bumps the price up no end.

Surely a decent low price set of decks would be better for what is presumably a starter?

Upgrade to professional gear later...

got these myself for in the house and they are ok to me

have had em for about a yr and no probs.free mike and headphones for £180

they also do belt drives for a bit less.

shame cos i got a leaflet(brochure)a few weeks back from a german company that deals in uk and i'm sure they had direct drives for £150 .threw it out and dont know what the blighters were called.if i remember or find any other leaflet i'll put it here.

best bet is to find some you like then punch in the specific name in google toolbar and see price comparisons

Don't know if this any help but as has been said you'll struggle to get dd turntables at that price.

There's someone posted this on our site...

....but the lot is £300, and they are not perfect - but I think a fair price for what they are.

I bought one of these decks and they are fabulous for the money (direct drive for under £67 - amazing!!!)

Looks like they also do a mixer too, so a good chance of getting the lot for £150.

Hope this helps.
