soul45s Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 What's the going rate for a US issue 45 of this these days? Derek Great track It shouldnt be expensive as it sold well as a new release, but who can say, people will pay what they want to I wouldnt charge more than a tenner for a USA issue, Uk TMGs probably at least £30 / £40
Guest Simon Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Love the flip also 'Never leave your babys side'. Great double-sider! Simon

Guest MBarrett Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Interesting record this. According to Martha's biography it was one of her two all-time favourite recordings. My dream was always to record more jazz songs and "My baby Loves Me" is real close to jazz. There are actually no Vandellas on "My Baby Loves Me." We had the Andantes and the Four Tops singing behind me for that one just to achieve that sound, and it was pure jazz. Got to be worth adding that to your sales spiel and a fiver on the price!!!! MB

Citizen P Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 As an interesting aside, I am told that the favour was returned by Martha and the girls doing backups on "Ask The Lonely". Tony

Tony Hi Tony Always loved "Ask The Lonely" and It's B Side "Where Did You Go" Nice to find some Info on the recording, Thanks.
Guest MBarrett Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Tony That would not surprise me at all. There was so much cross-fertilisation (if that's the right term?!) and camaraderie going on. Sorry going a bit off topic here but the artist that the girls most consistently did back up for was Marvin Gaye. Apparently on occasions they even went out live as Marvin and the Vandellas. I thought that was a joke/mistake when I first read it - but seemingly it is true. They were both on the bill of one of Murray the K's holiday season shows in 1964. Also on the bill was Dusty Springfield. Dusty would sometimes stand in for one of the Vandellas when they were doing back up for Marvin. Does life get much better than that?? For me - NO!!! MB

MB Hi We probably will never see the like again. So much Talent queing up, just waiting, to Pour their Heart out in the recording Studio. We are lucky People.
Guest 2648 W Grand Boulevard Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Theres about four Motown tracks that really get to me, this is one of them. Ms Reeves really gives it her all and sings her heart out. Breaks me up every time I listen. Thanx for posting it. Dave

Tony That's amazing, as "Ask The Lonely" is another of my all-time favourite Motown recordings! I ALWAYS include both songs on any Motown tape I do for myself or other people.
