Guest woolie mark Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 (edited) Can anyone supply me with a copy of: Best Friend Around - So Good To Know (astralwerks) on 7"? Thanks, Mark Edited January 18, 2005 by woolie mark
Guest Jamie Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 (edited) I don't think Astralwerks do it on a 7", probably wrong, I usually am!!!! I play it off a compilation 'After The Playboys Mansion' by Dmitri From Paris. If you 'google' it you'll probably pick up the Double LP comp for £15-£20 It's fucking brilliant, and you my friend have brilliant taste. I play it quite a bit at Soulsville, Leeds. I listed a playlist a while ago with it on: Here's some I played on Saturday night at 'Cosmos' in Leeds. 70's/80's & onwards. These are in no particular order: Black Stash - Mighty Loveman - Seville Tony Drake - Suddenly - Brunswick Madeline & Monticellos - Binding Ring Of Gold - De-Vel Crown Heights Affair - Dreaming A Dream - De-Lite Sharon Jones & Dap-Tones - How Long Do I Have To Wait For You? Archie Bell & Drells - Don't Let Love Get You Down - PIR LP Bobby Reed - Time Is Right For Love - Bell Pioneers - My Good Friend James - Mercury Best Friends Around - So Good To Know - Astralwerks Archie Bell & Drells - Where Will You Go..... - PIR LP Luther - Don't Wanna Be A Fool - Cotillion LP Dramatics - What You See Is What You Get - Volt Frederick Hymes III - Time Ain't Gonna Do Me No Favor - Fab Vegas I A & P Co - Check Yourself - Colossus The Nicky Newarkers - Woman - Mercury Pete Warner - I Just Wanna Spend My Life With You - Polydor Joe Tex - Under Your Powerful Love - Dial Gloria Scott - Case Of Too Much Love Making - Casablanca LP (Request) Curtis - How Can I Tell Her - Charm City Mark IV - Signs Of A Dying Love - OTB Not often I get chance to play a full set of this stuff, so enjoyed it all the more. Guest woolie mark Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 hi jamie, great playlist - yeah we have good taste (wait for the deluge of hostile messages from the modernphobes), heh heh oh yeah, if you are selling a copy of this, it isn't as good as jamie says! (actually it is fucking brilliant, but i don't think it is rare) thanks for info, i've got the Demitri playboy mansion LP, bought it for 10 City (i like his re-edit on this album) but the Best Friends Around track has grown on me to the extent that i can't get it out of my head. Does anyone know whether this was issued on 7"? i'm sure i saw it on a list from a shop in the south-east, but it was so old by the time i saw it that i didn't bother following it up - might be wrong i was interested to see the Sharon Jones on your playlist - what a fantastic soul tune, should get played more outside of funk clubs

Guest woolie mark Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 (edited) the entire human-race is not worthy, the first stooges album is the last thing i would ever part with the thing about the stooges is - just like northern soul - you either get it or you don't it's funny cos i wear a tshirt with a print of the first album at niters sometimes and it's amazing how many soulies have come up to me and said wot a brilliant album it is - has iggy's old tunes gone overground or is there a common link? anyway, can anyone help with the Best Friends Around record? Edited January 13, 2005 by woolie mark
Guest Jamie Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 (edited) Had a look at the liner notes last night, apparently Dimitri found said original 7" in a junk shop in London. I think it was on 'New York City Records' recorded 1979. I already tried the avenues of Craig Moerer and a few others in that neck of the woods, none of which said they had heard of the group, or even the label for that matter. I am curious to know what the original sounds like, as Dimitri has remixed 'So Good To Know'. Happy hunting, and get me a copy if you find two!!! Jamie Edited January 14, 2005 by Jamie

Guest woolie mark Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 doesn't anyone know of this record? i'm starting to wonder whether it's a genuine artist/title - hope it's not steve x-factor again!!! (can't be cos it's not crap) the label given on the compilation album is sound of new york and the release date 1979 it certainly sounds like a NY production from about that time (to me, maybe a bit earlier) i'm certain it was never released in UK (under that artist/title) any ideas anyone?

Infact, it is a US only 12". Not sure what the issue on Astralwerks is or if that was 7" or a 12" or just a figment of that Dimitri geezer's imagination or just a plain old typo...isn't Astralwerks some kind of Euro Techno label or sommat? It's on Lonnie Records which was linked to the prolific Queen Constance label. Value? Around £200 at the moment. Certainly one of the harder 12's to pick up. I've been trying to pick one up for ages myself to no avail. Last one I saw went on ebay for the equivalent of £200....got beat to it by someone from France, a country seemingly keen on this kind of sound; well, not the country as such but a fair proportion of that nation's record buying countrymen Edited January 17, 2005 by kooga

Guest Jamie Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 the original is on Lonnie records 12" and goes for a lot but it is about to be re-released link Yep, and one just went on ebay for £250 about 2 weeks ago Missed it again!!!
Guest woolie mark Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 (edited) Yep, and one just went on ebay for £250 about 2 weeks ago Missed it again!!! link hi jamie i've been sniffing around for this since we last e-chatted about it - my bloody google alert let me down if there was one on e-bay £250 is a bargain IMO - the ones i found out about had been going for £300+ oh, and it seems they are all badly warped as well i'd heard about a reissue - but thought that it might have been deleted so was keeping schtumm until i'd actually got one hope my info is wrong and angus' is correct Edited September 6, 2005 by woolie mark
Guest woolie mark Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 update on the reissue i've spoken to one of the guys at vox pop record shop in manchester (tel: 0161 237 5767) today they've had it in but sold out - said they should be ok to get some more through an import-distributor, it's been issued by a company in the us who have the rights (or say they have) to a lot of patrick adams, etc stuff they should be getting some more soon btw, it seems that the label on the reissue may be identical to the original - so i'd be a bit careful bidding for any on e-bay at moment!!!
