Recently picked up the prequel to Carlitos Way. Although the film got panned by the critics, I thought it was enjoyable. It was helped by an excellent soundtrack.....soulful, funky, staxy sort of thing. Looked for it on web but can't find track listing!

Anything else out there you'd recommend ie good film and soulful soundtrack?

Just what were they all about, one of my fave scenes from the film is when the 3 Wanderers are driving and start singing a great doowop song and get themselves lost in ducky boy territory  , were they....erm guys dressed up as girls?? unsure.gif:boxing:

they were an actually Bronx gang. You can read a bit here, also bit about baldies and other gangs. https://lantern-media.com/BronxGangs-DuckyBoys.htm and here https://stonegreasers.com/greaser/newyork.html

Casino has a cracking soundtrack. With an interesting version of - Compared to What

think it's just the Les Mccann & Eddie Harris live original isn't it?

I remember Gloria Lynn's lovely 'Speaking Of Happiness' showing up in some film that had Jennifer Lopez and was about some guy stuck in a desert hick town, quite good film actually.

i know it's not soul, but I love this from the city Of God soundtrack:

The Jackie Brown film was based on a book called Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard, if you like pulp fiction [ books, not the film ] he`s your man ... seriously, the guys a genius. He was an executive producer on the film. Tarantino is a massive fan of this guy & i really recommend anyone to try his books

There's been made a lot of stuff based on his books:

As for movies with soulful soundtracks, this one has one with several Invictus tunes and an opening scene featuring a Laura Lee live performance :

And it's filmed in Detroit, naturally.

Recently I saw "Ali", and I heard a great version of "Your precious love", very similar to Linda Jones, with ad-libbing and all.

I was so impressed that I bought the soundtrack on the spot, and I discovered that the singer was one Truth Hurts.

Here is a link where to buy it (from $1.16 !), and listen to some samples :

The film is O.K., too.
