I did ask about one girl who's piccy was on here a while ago. She gets to miost of the north of england venues. Wears glasses, and was in the Dazed and Confused article on the Rocket. I love watching her dance. Again she is one who rarely leaves the floor, and she looks so effortless.

thats Ang from Wigan....

For me, Stu's nephew (Stu of soulfeet promotions).

He's a young un, about 23, not sure. All the acrobatics, all the footwork, but his own interpretation.

Then whoever the guy was on the Prestatyn dance comp vid on youtube.

also someone I've seen Wolverhampton way who does a great 'hop' in her dance.

Plus some young bloke that was doing his thing at Keele last week (great acrobatics and footwork), and a woman I saw doing a great 'shuffle' there. Then there's a woman I see out regularly who dances brilliantly, and in wedges too - she's re-awakened a few tracks for me just by seeing the enthusiasm she gives to those tracks.

In short, I think there's alot of great dancers out there, every time I go out I can't help but people / dance watch, it's half the pleasure of a nighter.

Not read it all, and don't expect people to read this. I did notice that Carol who won at prestatyn was announced as Carol from Burnley. What happened to Carol from Todmorden Carol?

That was the day when everyone was somebody from somewhere rather than their pseudonym on SS.

For my note Carol is a worthy contender. For another I'd like to recall a bloke called Pip who I met at Warrington Parr Hall, he was going out with Cathy Kirby (no, Cathy queen of the go-go from Bradford) ......... he was bloody good. Anyone know him or what became of him?

Oh, and by the way, whilst I'm on here........... Mandy where are my tapes? Have you fell out with the Attic, check out our next guests........................... and see Gary Churm in flambouyant action ( nice post Kev H).

I know a guy who tells me he was the best. Apparently Paul 'Dicko' Dixon from Aycliffe was the kiddie at Wigan but that was long before my time (1978 ish) so I only have his word for it, though if he was that good does anyone remember him???

I was from Aycliffe, but was mainly 1972 to 77. Don't know Dicko but will ask my sister who knows all the current dancers in Aycliffe. Oddly, I was rated the best in Aycliffe (and one of the best Wigan according to many, in part due to my cossack) in mid 70ts. Please don't lambast me !

My name is Rory Gallagher

I love dancing today and like many comments on here just love dancing to the music!

that is what defines a great dancer to me too :D , rolling around on a floor aint dancing, is it

Wot about the half and full turn samurai move that was used quite a lot on the dancefloor in the Temple of Wigan. Billy

I remember a black guy I think was called Carl from Mansfield.

I met him in Gothenburg and in Cleethorpes around 2001/2002.

Very nice guy and the best acrobatics I've ever seen! :D

I'll mention your name to Mr Dixon when next I see him. I can't help heading for the floor whenever I hear Northern, I don't claim to be one of the greatest dancers but I can certainly sweat like I am..

the word Samurai tells me thats martial arts and not dancing  but i wouldnt know anyway Billy as i was far too young to have ever gone to Wigan :D , floor work can be impressive to watch if carried out by people who can actually do it properly but its just not for me im afraid. :sleep3:

spins, kicks and drops are ok though in my book, im not contradicting myself though am i now :sleep3:

:P Got to agree with the comments earlier, "acrobatics ain`t dancing" thats what gymnastics competions are for & neither is constant spinning it does my head in watching people limbering up to spin every 20 seconds or so :( , enough said me thinks.Foot work & variety for me every time, Wigan wonder moves never did it for me (even though we were regulars) I was more of a Cleethorpes seaside shuffler & prior to that trod the light fantastic in Hull along with Rick Poskitt.

For me today there are no truly outstanding dancers but there are some very good one.

In the Blue Corner for the gents I give you, in no particular order; Dave Bacon, Mickey from Sheffield & ANDY CANNON, I know he does floor work but he gets my vote with his nifty footwork.

In the Pink Corner (excluding my wife who is the best shuffle style dancer I`ve ever seen & shall remain nameless unless I wish to die) representing the ladies I give you; Chrissie from Donny,Kate from Hull & finally Sam Evans, I know she does cartwheels & will have someones eye out one day with those winklepicker style shoes  but she to has excellent footwork.

Now harping back to the old days when I could hold my own with most & spin when needed there were two guys who were dance icons to me; FRANK BOPPER from Derby? & ERIC SMITH from Leeds also the black guy (not the spinning top) in the Wigan Casino footage in the "My England" video piece, sorry I don`t know his name? Now they had footwork. I can honestly say I have no recollections of any brilliant female dancers from that era, but bear in mind it is 30+ ago & the old grey matter ain`t what it use to be. But as the man said earlier "Does it really matter? Dancing is just an expression of the joy & love you have for the music", or words to that effect. Me thinks if your a good dancer it does though, it`s an ego thing.

Take care & be safe,

Spot.

Wouldnt it be good to get all the top dancers in a room together for a dance comp to see who really does come out top dog all those egos in one room !!!

Now that would be worth watching!

Spot I do understand where the ego thing comes from tho ....blokes tend to have a more competitive streak whe it comes to anything!!!

I admire Sam Evans footwork very much ..but I could teach her a thing or two about gymastics

those bendy legs on her cart wheels look very messy and her round offs are also untidy

But then i gave up the gym routines a long time ago I think i would look very undignified throwing myself about (even tho I still can ) after all Im a laydee and I do laydee things !! PMSL!!!

PS I teach gymnastics and trampolining to kids which I love!!!

Would like to give a big shout out to the Irish lot on this matter.Check out a young guy from belfast called Liam Quinn, would give Michael "riverdance" Flatley a run for his money and a lot easier on the eyes! And for the girls a wee young lass who gives the boys a run for their money, called Wendy. That girl can bust a move like no other, but the energy and pasion that you get from her is a joy to watch(if you can pin her to one spot that is!)All in all I love seeing new people on the scene who aren't intimidated by some of the more experienced dancers and get out on the floor, maybe not rythmically be the best but its the music that makes them pick up their courage and come out onto the floor.

Hiya Sista welcome to the thread

If you look further up I posted a nice little clip of Mr Quinn doing his stuff !!

Hes a myspace friend of mine and i emailed him to tell him he was being bigged up by his club goers and friends ...he was very flattered!

I cant blame them he is very good

Ive seen quite a few good new faces and they dont seen daunted by the older dancers

I think its one of those things where you hear that sound and your interpretation is different to the next persons ..but so what we all love the music!

As we are now talking about dancers in the past:

Growing up in Gloucestershire, watching Dennis Lee dance was always a treat.

Many on here will know him, and some may remember a guy getting on stage at Stafford and dancing in the middle of a live act. (I think it was the guy on the smae bill as Lorraine Chandler, but too many memories are morphing into one)

I didnt think we were talking about past dancers

I was trying to keep it on topic !

I have no objections if anyone wants to add dancers from other eras

who have dropped of the face of the planet!

Seems such a waste of talent ..
