Question About James Lately

The version of Love, Friends and Money played by Andy Dyson on his radio spot with Dean Anderson doesn't seem have any string accompaniment. Is this the exact same track as the issued 45? You can hear the strings clearly on the version comped on Dave Hamilton's Detroit Dancers, sounded pitched up too. Tried to clarify this by visiting John Manship's gallery but that clip although slightly different to the CD still had the strings on it. How many versions were officially issued on 45? The one without the accompaniment is just hard, love how the guitar chugs along with the drums, James' singing also seems less strained. While on topic can someone pm a sound file of "Tears Running & Falling from My Eyes", please.

The demo version of "Love, Friends & Money" was put on Vol.1 of the Kent Dave Hamilton CDs (without the strings, and marginally slower), and Vol.3 contains the released version, mastered off the Temple 45 (I think). Hope this helps.

we discussed this years ago, long before t'internet came along, and it was said and others agreed that the version without strings did appear on a 45. Yet to hear it out on said 45 though.

Same here, still waiting to hear it out, or elsewhere. Andy D said he once found a few copies of the record and some were a no strings version, but visually identical to the "normal" 45 I think. The second question is if "tears" is also a different take/mix on this alternate version 45? I would really like to hear the no strings 45 someday, both sides if possible...

Pretty sure the copy i had ,late 70's early 80's had no strings,basic sounding ,bought for tears running and falling(never thought to play the flip at the time )
