cheating a bit but the above is the best track ever released on uk only imo

why it was never actually released is more of a mystery than the building of the pyramids afaic.

Baby Washington - "Get A Hold Of Yourself" c/w "Hurt So Bad" (United Artists) Album only in the US I think.

I picked up this fabulous dancer really cheaply C.1973 and it's remained one of my UK faves ever since. Why it never got more attention I'll never know... it's not even listed in most of the Discographies on her that I've read! Yes, the flip is her slow and soulful version of the Little Anthony & The Imperials classic.

Soz Simon!

It's a nice cut tho eh?

Wonder if Contempo done it by design, or accident!

(or do ya mean Maxine? )

steve

LOL only joking..actually I was talking about Deon for the next issue !

Maxine is shortlisted but as I don't actually have it, so far it hasn't gone in.

Mel, the reason Baby doesn't appear in her discographies is that the compilers have a complete block on UK 45's unless they're percieved to be rare....Timi Yuro and Martha Reeves spring to mind.

I started the 'manifesto' column on UK only single releases a few years back (although I cut myself a bit of slack, including 12" and CD singles too and one or two have turned out to have obscure US 7's as well..Donald Height "Rags to Riches to Rags" springs to mind) after doing a whole article on the Expansion Special Reserve 45's all of which feature tracks that were unrelased on 7" until then and include Phyllis Hyman's version of 'Can't Live Without You' Jeffree's 'Love Loan', The Whispers 'Where There is Love' ect etc. They still get listed as 'reissues' though which they are not. Then I realised that JJ barnes 'Sweet Sherry' was never listed on Contempo 45 in his discographies despite that being it's first 45 release, which always seemed strange to me as it's such a Northern classic. There's a claim somewhere for a Groovesville 45 (not the bootleg) but it's still unsubstansiated to my knowledge. I'm still waiting to actually see a copy or even a scan of Mr Dynamite's 'Sh'Mon' on a US label too.

All good fun innit !

How about Jack Hammer's version of Little Anthony's " What greater love " on UK United Artists ? Got a Barbara Jean English " Key in the mailbox " on UK Contempo , was that ever issued as a ' 45 in the USA ? Best ,Eddie

The Alithia flip of Barbara's 'I'm Living A Lie' is 'All This' on but the Contempo 45 has 'Key In The Mailbox' so looks like it is UK only then Eddie. Nice version too. Plus the Contempo release is better quality plastic.

The Drifter - long john baldry -

I have never heard or seen of a US release of this?

I think you're right.

If I said I preferred this version to Ray Pollard's, would I get a visit from the Soul Police? laugh.png

Didn't you know that on the ninth day, God made Ray Pollard's 'The Drifter' in his own image ?

That is a lovley record , I want one thumbsup.gif

I'm not even sure it's UK only. Must have had a J.A. release I would think ? Maybe Pete Smith or someone will know.

I paid a couple of quid a few years back, twenty seems to be about right now.
