Billy Freemantle Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 (edited) This thread will probably sink like the proverbial lead balloon. But I'll give it a go anyway. Which songs good lyrics that have abit of meaning? Here is O.V. Wright's " When you took your love from me." Would you take the wings from a bird, Knowing he can't fly? Would you take the bottle from a little, bitty baby, And you know he's gonna cry? (Looka here!) Would you take the fish outa the water Knowing, knowing the little fella's gonna die? Would you take the cane from a blind man And you know he ain't got no eyes? Oh baby, can't you see Oh my darling, That's what happened, One day, When you took your love from me (Good God!) I've been loving you to long, baby You've almost become a part of me (Here's another thing!) I'm a prisoner of your love, baby But it's a funny thing, I don't want you to set me free (Oh!) Would you take the sail from the ship, And you know it ain't gonna move? (Good God!) Would take all the beats from a melody, (Lord have mercy!) And just let it lose its groove? Oh baby, can't you see, Oh my darling, That's what happened When you took your love from me? (I know you understand what I'm saying!) One day you took your love from me I lost the will to live, baby The day you took your love from me (Here's another thing) You left me down on my knees I got to stay down just because ... Winnie :-) Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 This thread will probably sink like the proverbial lead balloon. But I'll give it a go anyway. Which songs good lyrics that have abit of meaning? Here is O.V. Wright's " When you took your love from me." =========== Not gonna try and write all the words for 'Time will pass you by', cos I'm bound to get some wrong, but I think it's lyrically excellent. As the seasons all but fade away into clouds of misty autumn grey as I sit here looking at the street, little figures quickly moving feet, etc etc Winnie:-)
Billy Freemantle Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 (edited) This is available on the net as a Kylie Miogue lyric Written: J Whys, D Fekaris, N Zesses x4: Don't let it pass you baby 1: Passing seasons over fade away Into misty clouds of autumn grey As I sit here looking at the street Little figures quickly moving feet I'm just a pebble on the beach and I Sit and wonder why Little people running around Never knowing why CHORUS: Life is just a precious minute baby Open up your eyes and see it baby Give yourself a better chance Because time will pass you Right on by (right on by) 2: This big old world is spinning like a top Come and help me now and make it stop All you have to do is live for now Come along with me I'll show you how Take my hand I'll show you how to live Why wait until tomorrow? Take my hand I'll lead the way To a brighter day CHORUS: (Don't let it pass you baby) time Time is gonna pass you by so quickly And it wait's for no man No no Oh baby CHORUS: (repeat 2 times) (Don't let it pass you baby) Don't let it pass you Don't let it pass you Don't let it don't let it It's obviously, "Passing seasons "all but fade away"? Much respect coz I used to do the same thing. I once lifted most of Bobby Hebb's Love Love Love, and passed it off as a poem written for a rock chick girlfriend. She dumped me soon after! lol
Dayo Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 My fave lyrics - at the moment! Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby Ain't nothing like the real thing Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby Ain't nothing like the real thing I got your picture hanging on my wall But it can't seem to come to me When I call your name I realized it's just a picture in a frame I read your letters but you're not here They don't move me, they don't groove me Like when I hear your sweet voice Whispering in my ear I play my games of fantasy I pretend I don't see reality I need the shelter of your arms to comfort me I got some memories you look back on Though they help me when you're gone I'm well aware nothing can Take the place of you being there No other sound is quite the same as your name No touch can do half as much To make me feel better Let's stay together I'm so So glad we got the real thing, baby So glad we got the real thing Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby Ain't nothing like the real thing

wendy Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 i love the lyrics to Turning My Heart Beat Up - they're so funny. But I guess that's not 'good.' anyone else like Nowhere To Run? "When I look in the mirror And comb my hair I see your face Just a-smiling there" Not exactly beautiful & poetic but an accurate portrayal of a gal gone stone mad over a boy
Guest Jamie Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I think the lyrics to Dells 'Make Sure' are nothing short of genius. All I need now is a bird to sing them to.....

You're my Heaven in the Afternoon, But heaven always ends too soon, So i'll meet you at the same time, The same place..... Guest hammy Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Tough to separate a lyric from a melody for me. The two go hand in hand. But if I had to choose just one: JAMES LATELY - LOVE FRIENDS AND MONEY (TEMPLE) If those lyrics don't move you then nothing will. Hammy

But if I had to choose just one: JAMES LATELY - LOVE FRIENDS AND MONEY (TEMPLE) If those lyrics don't move you then nothing will. Guest Byrney Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 I love lyrics that tell someone to F-off in no uncertain terms e.g. James Dockery, My faith in you is all gone After tearing my heart into little pieces, seemed so optimistic about a new start. But the innocence - so -sweetness manisfested on your face dont reveal what's really in your heart. My faith in you is all gone. I'm all angry now
Guest rachel Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 ============ Just thinking about this, and realised IMO a lot of it has to do with who's singing, and how they're singing it. link Just listening to one that gets that combination just right for me... Jerry Jackson - It's Rough Out There. You're right, list is endless.. great innit?

Guest Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Three from me for different reasons... All of my life - Ringleaders. Great Lyrics, superb laid back delivery, hardly a note sang on the beat, the opposite of H,D,H. vocal style. Great. 50/50 - Harold Burrage. He wouldn't get away with this now... 'course he would. Gangster rap makes him look a house husband. Can't stop looking... - Fantastic Four. My all time fave sing along record. It's like Pavlov's dog. It comes on. I sing. I have no choice mentioned earlier... Fantastic. Ooop's that's four

David Ruffin and the Temptations, need I say more, just listen link When Motown was good ... well, it was very good! What a buzz this sound gives me. This is really what 'upbeat' soul is all about.
Martint Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 two of my fave lyrics would have to be Roy Hamilton- the panic is on for an expression of sheer gut wrenching pain and Tony Clarke- They call me a wrong man for quality story telling I also think Karmello Brooks has a tremendous lyric as well...
Ernie Andrews Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Fine young Girl - Ernie Andrews (thats why its my favourite)
Ernie Andrews Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Actually - Where were You (When I needed you!) by Ernie Andrews is not much of a dancer but its so F***king soulful its unbelievable. Just about sums up everymans feeling about a woman whose deserted them and left them in the prverbial crap.
Steve Edgar Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Apart from the "tear Stained" soul lyrics of so many tunes, I love a lyric that tells a story from begining to end, for me a great example is the Teddy Randazzo tune "Reputation" recorded by Little Anthony on the flip of "Hurt So Bad" probs get it wrong typing it out, and ya need to hear the walking pace backing to appreciate it, so I've stuck the file on ere... Now this is 1st attempt so soz if I cock it up! Steve
