Fred Benson Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Second event at this new venue in Hucknall, 5 mins from M1. Went along as the music policy suited my taste and I was still feeling a bit low after the events of last week. Easy to find, a few hundred yards off the main road and a very large car park. Room itself is quite big, adequate tables and seating, with a brand new dancefloor installed by the promoters. The sound was top class and deck cameras confirmed only original records were being played and allowed the dancers to 'see what was coming next'. Added to the ambience of the place. The resident DJ's played some outstanding rare'ish and underplayed, together with some well known floorfillers, but not those I normally hear. Wish I had bothered to note them down, but Johnny My Boy, First Taste Of Hurt, I'm Slowly Molding, I'm a Lonely One, The Jokes on You, and I Just Can't Speak were just a few. Mark Hopes was the guest and boy, did he make an impact. One after another of dance tunes you don't hear out at other venues. Vanguards, Soul Incorporated, wish I'd noted them but my memory fades! A busy night, but the audience was clearly affected by other soul events in the area and also Forest were at Wembley. A great venue, so if you don't want to listen to the top 50, give it a try. Simon and Alison will give you a warm soulful welcome. 3
