Popular Post Kieron Taz Robathan Posted April 17 Popular Post Posted April 17 (edited) My post earlier today from Facebook This is the deepest sadness and hardest thing I will ever have to write on here. My Soul Dad, my mentor and my best friend and everyone’s Uncle Ted. Ted Massey has passed away. I have the blessing from Ted’s family to put these upsetting words together as best as I can . The family are very sad and upset with this big hole left and are still in a state of shock with the news. I ask that you all please respect the families privacy during this sensitive time . I will miss you bestie so very dearly and haven’t quite come to terms with your passing. You were the ultimate professional and was held in the most upright regards by everyone I’ve ever meet all over the U.K. A true Legend that will never be forgotten I will continue to push the boundaries with the music on our scene as you believed in me before anyone else did I will never ever forget I will update you all going forward with details as of when is needed. The Guvnor, The Maestro you’re at peace now God bless you Sir Ted and love you always your best friend Taz Edited April 17 by Kieron Taz Robathan 18 2
Greedy Mick Posted April 17 Posted April 17 So so sad met Ted mid 80s and again when I got back into the scene after my divorce.. I will always remember him firstly for playing requests for my Son Kevin as he got into the scene and also sounds I pressured him to play with Ted having dance floor doubts.. 1st the traditions twinkle little star and little Willie faulks look into my heart at a nighter in Kettering which both filled the floor, thank you Ted x But for me the best memory is of my first spot in the back room of rugby and I dedicated my copy of Mac Staten to Ted and he threatened to hit me with his walking stick and run off with my copy... Will miss you Ted thanks for being a great bloke, great dj and a great gardener. Love and prayers to your family and friends. Mick and Kevin x x x 2
Divot Posted April 17 Posted April 17 This is incredibly sad news. A Lea Manor, Albrighton, legend and a genuinely top man.
Blackpoolsoul Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I used to call Ted "Dad" when we used to hang around between his spots. I thought the absolute world of him and am shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of my friend, a wonderful DJ and wonderful man. RIHP Ted ❤ 2
Popular Post Quinvy Posted April 17 Popular Post Posted April 17 I think that I was responsible for getting Ted back out Dj’ing. I was looking for guest Dj’s for my all-nighters, and Cliff (Camfield) mentioned Ted’s name. I knew he was on soul source, but I had never met him. So I messaged Ted, and asked him if he would like to come and do a spot? Cliff had told me that he had a fantastic collection. Anyhow, Ted got back to me, and if I remember correctly, he couldn’t do it. I think his wife was ill at that time? But later, he contacted me and agreed to come up to Burnley. That was it for Ted. He was constantly being booked to Dj after that night. Very sad news indeed. 4
New Members Soulgirl20255 Posted April 17 New Members Posted April 17 I first met Ted in 2008. What a journey he took me on, musically. That's his legacy. Introducing people to his passionate record collection. Bon voyage Ted
pjsoulgirl Posted April 17 Posted April 17 We all share in the grief on the soul scene at the sad passing of a true legend. A Grosvenor Rooms regular. Ted and his tunes will be greatly missed. RIP Ted from all involved at the Grosvenor 2
Popular Post Soulfulsolutions Posted April 17 Popular Post Posted April 17 Can’t believe it, just another ordinary Thursday, watching footy, looking at records for sale, catch sight of something that triggers concern, and then its real, one of the immortals gone. Nothing ordinary about Ted, he was extraordinary, he epitomised the birth, ups and downs and future of the scene, sleep tight 9
Eddie Hubbard Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Rest in peace Ted ,a great collector and DJ ,and a real gentleman.Very sad day x
rodders Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) Ted was such a good man, always time for a chat. Such a legend on the Scene. One of those guys who was loved by all. May he rest in peace. Just want to say I think what happened to Ted and his records was despicable. I hope that the people that stole are eventually named and shamed. Ted carried on as all was normal, such was his heart, big enough for everyone on the soul scene Edited April 18 by rodders 2

Phil, after his spot that night I went up to Ted (I'd never met him before) and asked him if he'd come to the Attic and do a spot for us which he agreed to. The night was fantastic and he was soon asked to do spots at various soul nights round our area. Years later Ted told me that was what got the ball rolling for him and led to where he ended up......nice to have played a small part in his journey 2
Rick Scott Posted April 18 Posted April 18 All the previous comments speak for themselves and he was just that, everything you would want for in a True Friend and the rest.......... A very sad day and a great lose to the music Scene. My Condolences to his Family & Close friends at this time. Now At Peace. Ted, You truly Are a Legend to so many people. 1

It was Cliff that knew him from his earlier days on scene, and knew the quality of his records. This must have been the period when Ted was looking after his wife, and wasn’t able to go out. Terrible what happened to him with the robbery, and very sad that he’s no longer with us. 2
Staceys Dad Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) a top man, always chatted and said hello , no airs or graces with TED..will be greatly missed Edited April 18 by Staceys Dad 1
Harrythedog Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Really shocked to hear about the passing of Ted. Always shook hands and had a quick word when we met, but i really didnt know the man or him me (how many on the scene do we really know ). Came across as a really nice unassuming bloke and you cant say that about many. Really needs something to get me out these days and Ted DJing was a good reason to make the effort and get out. Will miss the smile and handshake, and yet another reason not to make the effort and get my arse off the settee. RIP Ted
New Members Tonna Posted April 18 New Members Posted April 18 Omg I was only talking to Ted a few weeks ago. True gent and a great dj will be sadly missed. R.I.P. Ted

Popular Post Shsdave Posted Sunday at 10:57 Popular Post Posted Sunday at 10:57 Devastating news, a true gentleman & great DJ. Ted used to come & DJ for us at Solid Hit in London every year & was guest at our very last night. We were supposed to have our last night December 2015 but management said we can have one more so got on to Ted to ask if he can make it & fortunately he could. As always when Ted was on it was a packer & as always he delivered the goods. Outstanding DJ sets & outstanding Man RIP Ted 4
David Meikle Posted Sunday at 12:35 Posted Sunday at 12:35 I only saw Ted on youttube deejaying in his back room. A man dedicated to Northern Soul. I also hope that the runts who stole part of his collection get what’s due to them. RIP Ted
