Hi,

I live in Sheffield and I am very keen to go to a Northern Soul night in the Yorkshire / Stoke-on-trent area, that is well attended with young people, as I am young myself (21). I know the scene is very friendly and the music is so uplifting and I find the dancing amazing. Can anyone recommend a soul night in any of these areas.

Many thanks

Rhianna

Im not sure there will be a specific “mainly younger people” soul nite because I doubt it would work economically? However there is something in Manchester run by Jordan Wilson which I imagine attracts a younger crowd, but it’s not just northern soul they play so im told! And there is the happening in Bristol but that’s a bit of a way out!

hood this helps 👍

ps…we’re all young at heart 😂

Hi Rhianna,

My daughter's at Manchester Uni and we went to Jordan's most recent Room at the Top niter, absolutely superb - good mixed crowd, lots of younger but also some enthusiastic older - basically all classic and upfront northern with a bit of R&B and modern thrown in - really good fun

Here's the link to their FB page, looks like next one Sat 7th June - highly recommended

Hi Rhianna,

We don't run nights anymore, but we've got a weekender in Oct - HOME | Home Run Soul Club - Soul Night Manchester which gets a real mix of ages but mostly 30-60 years of age. The residents are 30-40years old so I guess the cliental (like most events, now I think about it) reflects the age group of the hosts/organisers but we do get students and folk in their twenties. We had Jordan play our first event a few years back.

Jordon's event is worth a look for sure and that'll satisfy the itch to dance!

Another Manchester event is Fish ain't bitin at the Smithfield (last Sunday of the month... so this weekend in fact)which is really nice and friendly! Its a day event. No dancing. More of a social exercise befitting of a Sunday afternoon, but I think it's worth a look. Easily communicable from Sheffield.

I think there is a soul event at Sheffield (Kelham Island) called Everyday People on Sunday 1st June. Brett Franklin run's it and it pops up ad hoc across the year.

Good luck!!

Huge thanks for the mention mate!

Yes, definitely come along to our Room at The Top event in Manchester—I'm sure you'll love it! You can find us here, as well as on Instagram and Facebook.

Our next event is now set for June. We had a bit of a mix-up with the April date, but we’ve updated the Soul Source event page. :)

Hi Rhianna,

I live in Sheffield too, you might be struggling to find a venue in Sheffield specifically for the younger ones now that the one in Brimington has finished but there certainly are a good selection of venues where you would get a good appreciation of Soul/Northern Soul.

To name a few that we attend

Eckington Civic- this is mainly soul/motown not much Northern Soul.

Mr Wilson’s- last Saturday of the month- this is mainly soul, not much Northern Soul.

Extra Time - soul/northern soul.

Roundabout Soul Club - Northern Soul

Amy Hodkin is a local Sheffield youngster soul dancer/dj who’s on this site - she would be someone that you would benefit from speaking too.

There are plenty more that you can find locally that will be on the Soul Source events page that we don’t attend but I’m sure that they would all make you very welcome.

Best wishes

Tomo
